Last night I was on line reading the days posts and had the
window open by my computer. It was about 7:30 and I herd
gobble-gobble through the window.GREAT sound to hear
with about a week to go.I looked out and saw a tom about
100 yards from my house.I went into the kitchen to get my
slate to give him a call or two.I opened the slider on the
other side of the house and stoped. There was a hen 50 yds.
away in the woods scratching for food.I had to stay in so I
just watched her.I went out the back snuck along the side
and peeked around the corner.I gave one light call and old
tom went nuts.He started moving down below my house so I
went back in to watch. He saw the hen who must have told
him to go fly a kite. She found an old mole or chipmunk hole
and started taking a dust bath. The dust was flying.Old tom
went back to where I first saw him and just kept calling and
I think he slowly walked over the hill and must have flown up
to roost even though I never heard him.We have geese down
at a pond that are VERY noisy this time of year.
This morning at 5:05 I was in bed and GOBBLE-GOBBLE
I got up and went to the window. He went on for 15 min.I
was not sure if he was on the ground because the sound never
moved.I never heard him fly down but he started moving
down hill from when I first heard him.He might have bene on
the ground already,I'll never know.I was getting breakfast
and looked out the kitchen window as I opened the refrigerator
to get the milk. There was a hen walking behind my Morrell bag
target.I got my call and went on the porch. One call and old
tom started up.I think this is his girl and follows her all day.
As much as we play the turkey call game and the $$$$$$ spent
on calls my Son was watching some people with a backhoe
on the property next to him.Every time the backhoe hit rock
the 5 Jake's all went GOBBLE-GOBBLE ;D.
