I'm not sure what you would call this but I saw him about 2 miles from the house. Sorry about the pic quality but all I had was my phone.

Looks like some of the tame ones some people have around here or it's a legendary white turkey. I've heard about them but never saw one.

Turkey can have genetic abnormalities that cause color phases. This one I would say is what is normally called a "smoke phase" bird. Color Phases: A few wild turkeys grow unusually colored feathers. These are known as color phases. There are four color phases, a smokey gray color phase, a melanistic color phase (all black), an erythritic color phase (reddish coloration) and an albino color phase (very rare). Here is a good link to an explanation by a biologist from the NWTF: www.panwtf.org/turkey_color_phases.php

Crazy thing almost looks fake with that super red head and neck against the white. Forgot to tell you nkybuck, but great snag and quick thinking to take that photo. That is something few really get to see in person. Thanks for posting it here!

That is something few really get to see in person. Thanks for posting it here! My neighbor told me about him this spring and I drive by this area everyday and saw him for the first time. I figured if he was domestic I would see him more often and there is no houses close. Thanks for the info.

Hard to imagine him lasting too long outside of the winter months in that condition.
