This ranch advertises special deals on the "Current Events" section of there website. They were advertising rams for $300 bucks a pop. I couldn't resist. I arrived 15 minutes early, but the guide, the son of the owner, was dressed and ready to go. Another party was also to hunt, but they were a good group of guy, curteous, and posed no problems. The ranch itself is two parcels, about 120 acres each, divided by a high fence. The reason for the division, as explained to me by the owner, is to prevent the very large animals, like Buffalo and Watusi, to wander into the steep west side of the property. The west side is too steep for tractors to venture into. Hence the division. The west side is where the pigs, goats and sheep were, and yes, it's very steep. You will get a workout. The terrain is very open with steep ravines. The east side is flatter with a bit more cover.
Adam, my guide, worked his butt off to get a group of rams pushed my way into bow range. His father used an ATV to travel down the pathways and push the animals as well. I'm not so sure I'm in complete agreement with that tactic. But I guess it's no worse than driving a tractor around the property. The game was sharp eyed and super wary. Be prepared to put some effort into your hunt, especially with a bow. The hogs I saw were in the 200-300+ range. There were quite a few cow elk and red stag, as well.
The lodge was small, clean and well kept. I counted four beds. The living room has two couches and I'm sure four more bodies could fit on the floor, if need be. Lunch was provided, which was lunch meats, cold beverages, and some awesome home made brownies.
Bottom line, I find DD Ranch a reputable operation that treated me right and the guide went above and beyond to get me a trophy ram in bow range. I recommend them to anyone without hesitation.
