Although I was able to take this buck it was with a rifle (have to fill the freezer) Coming to a T in the trail I backed into some small spruce with must my head sticking out. Have always tried grunting but have had no luck...................but this time it worked like a charm!! Letting 3 soft grunts sound I was stuffing the tube back in my jacket when low and behold upon looking up a deer was trotting towards me swinging his head and snorting every step. Panic steps in, 100 yards when I first see him and he has already covered 25 yards before I can get the rifle to my shoulder. In tall grass and coming head on to you a deer is a pretty small target when the fever sets in! First shot missed and he's still coming towards me not even slowing down after hearing the shot! Pumped another shell in seen brown and pulled the trigger.....he's down!!!! Hit him just in the top of the shoulder blade and broke his spine, no skill just luck and more luck, I was shaking so bad couldn't even talk on the radio so my brother could understand that I was trying to tell him that my FIRST buck was on the ground! I can tell you that the thrill can't get any better and am looking foreward to the next already!!! With almost 4 weeks left in the season you can bet that I'll be out there alot more. I shot him with a 1906 35 remington Slide Action It was my fathers before me and holds alot of value for me. Only thing new on it is a scope I put on last year. A fine shooting rifle.

I am a huge fan of the .35 Remington! That's a great round! IMO.
