Wagner Bows - A quality Bowyer

I think that everyone here knows that I don't recommend anyone or anything that I don't know intimately. With that said... I am recommending the only traditional Bowyer ever to make my go to guy.... to date.

I have 3 of this mans bows and have not only walked his shop, I have taken the time to get to know him. An excellent Bowyer with a high moral standard. He stands behind his work 100%.

Of the three bows I have, one is a replacement for the original that cracked on me. When I bought this bow it was a reject and I was told that fact before I bought it. Well it was a wonderful bow while it lasted...and then it broke.

I called and was told that another would be made to my spec as soon as was possible. I offered to pay the difference for a better wood but instead of getting an o.k. and a total... I was told "sure no problem... and no charge!"

WHAT!

Well when I came to pick it up, it was not what I asked for... It was more than I could have afforded!.
He had built me an amazing African wood longbow that I probably couldn't blow up with a stick of dynamite. ;D

I admired this one piece of wood that he had ordered in from Africa when I did the tour and he took notice of that. The bow that replaced my maple longbow was a zebra wood replica that was worth at least double my original purchase price

This Bowyer didn't do this because it was going to do himself benefit and he didn't do it for the money. This Bowyer made this bow for me (as a replacement) because it pleased him to see me happy.

Can you believe that!?!. This man (Mister Wagner from Ohio) built me a custom longbow for free (basically) because he wanted to see me smile.

What a guy!. I couldn't be happier with all three of my long bows and I got three for the price of one of the big name bows that would not launch an arrow any better or faster IMO.

These longbows have some snot to them!. They are faster than my old Berry bow if not as elegant. While they may not be hand fitted... they are not $1000. either

If you are looking to get into traditional longbows you cannot go wrong with this mans work.

Well, Doegirl got the T/D at the state shoot last weekend and Steve even let her take it with a deposit only. Cant say enough good about Steve Wagner.

The grip was fat for a little hand like hers, so I worked it down with the files yesterday and put a good center ridge back down the middle to help her perfect the hand position. She was shoowing real well with it yesterday before she headed out to work.

The only issue so far has been the arrows because it is not easy to find a arrow that spines perfectly to a 33# recurve. Ended up with a 600 carrying a 150 grain head which shoots pretty good for her. Just 12# more and we will have a hunting bow with more arrow and head options.

Shorter draws and lower weights always seem to pose arrow problems in arrow tuning. I believe Logan's Mad Dog longbow is 37# at her 24" draw. We ended up with GT trad 1535's cut to 26 with a 100 grain insert and 150 grain head. It's not a center cut longbow so we had to front load the heck out of it

Good points to add. I didnt even see the shafts you reference so now I have something new to look at

I checked those shafts out and they are 600 spine the same as we have now. I did however follow Logans head weight and was surprised to see a dramatic change in arrow flight quality.
I could have gone to 300 grains and would have if I had more than one head. The 250 grain actually flies very well so for now we will stick to that set up. Arrows cut 27" currently.

We tried out 1716 xx75's cut at 28" with 100 grain heads. They flew awesome and I shaved 100grains off the total arrow weight which made me a happy camper. Another thing, this bow is QUIET. All it has is cat whiskers on the string. I can't wait to get hunting weight limbs for the riser and try it out on a hog when the time comes. ;D
