Well, smj really got me fired up about entering the traditional realm. As you've noticed, he is making me a longbow in the build-along thread. I started visiting tradgang.com on a regular basis and I guess I just couldn't wait to get started. I fell in love with this bow from JD Berry. It was listed as "as new" and I got a super deal. Honestly, there is not a mark on it and don't think I could descriminate it from one just off the maker's bench.

This is their Renaissance model. 64 inch longbow, 46 lbs. at 28 inches. Everyone encouraged me to start light, even though I am shooting 67 from my compound easily. Seems they were right. This feels like a comfortable weight to establish some good shooting form. The bow is whisper quiet....only a very slight hand shock, but nothing serious. What a looker it is. JD is a real artist. The arrow inlays are beautiful. Riser is Cocobola and the limbs are yew. Tips are horn. I plan to use the longbow smj is building as my go-to hunting bow, as its weight will be more suitable once I build up some form. Anyway, I am excited about the entire adventure...even though I am starting somewhat late in life. Here are the pics:

Thats a beautiful bow. I especially like the horn tips andthe arrows on the back are pretty darn cool too.

I have a Berry Serpentine longbow that is totally hot and I know why you were attracted to it.
It's one nice shooter and I really wish I could spend more time with it.
Maybe this year?.
Wish I had you're bone tips...those are very worthwhile

Hey easternhunter, I hear ya...I can't really afford it either. So, I sold a rifle to pay the tab. I don't regret it for a minute.

Oooooooo!! That is a work of art. Love it! Yew is an exceptional wood for limbs on a longbow. You done good

That's a striking bow. I love that arrow inlay on the limb and the horn tips. I'd buy it just to look at it-all day, everyday

That is a nice bow for sure! I like the material choices, and really like the additions to the basic bow: the arrow on the limbs, the nocks, leather wrap - that is a great looking bow!

With yours, I have another bow in process as I wanted to have a couple for going through the tillering process - I will have 3 to choose from, yours being one of them. (Different things show up with different bows...) Since tillering seems to be the part that everyone worries over, I want to make sure I cover it well in the build info. It is coming though, honest!
