Got my first turkey a little wet jake. Weather was not very good but I had flew from AK to SD to hunt turkeys so I went out was able to get this jake to come in to about 10 yards and give me a shot. Took it with a Toelke takedown recurve, Beman MFX classic arrows, STOS broadhead.

All right! That is a fine bird with a trad bow, too!!! Congratulations! Were you hunting from a blind, or sitting in front of a tree? Could you explain the shot a bit more? Did he come right in, or make you wait? Where did you hit him? Did he drop, or fly off a bit? What weight arrow, and draw weight & length? Again, congratulations! STOS makes a solid looking tip - if you are not familiar with them take a peek : www.stosbroadheads.com/buystos.htm

I was hunting from a blind.
It had been raining pretty hard for most of the morning so there were not many birds moving around even tough there were quite a few birds in the area. There were two jakes came out in a field on the other side of the band of trees that I was set up on. Called a couple of times and they came through the trees and he gave me a broadside shot at about 10 yards.
The bird ran about 25 yards a before he went down. I hit him right where I was aiming but the hit was about a inch low and back of what it should have been. It went through the thigh and above the breast but it was basically a gut shot. I had studied turkey anatomy and shot placement but things look different in the field. It was a complete pass through.
The bow is 55lbs at my 30 in draw. The arrows were MFX340's with 50 grain brass inserts tipped with a 200 grain STOS. Total weight 650 grains.

Thanks for the follow up info! I agree, finding the perfect shot spot on a live bird seems harder than it should be... Obviously, your shot did the job, thanks again for posting the details.

Yes every year I study turkeys to see where I want to have my arrow hit!!Easier said than done .The thing that makes me crazy is they always seem to be moving. I practice shooting at a plastic bottle on a string.Great bird especially with a Trad congratulations

AKDD, Congrats!! Jake or not thats a mighty fine turkey. I definitley would have shot it. Especially considering the fact you traveled so far. And 10 yards and traditional equipment on top of that!! Thanks so much for sharing. It helps me reduce the cabin fever in my attempt to escape the pollen. ;D
