Good day gents. I have a question? I have a Martin X-200 recurve @ 55lbs. I found a thread that recommended this bow as a starter and picked one up. My question is what you gentlemen would recommend as an ideal arrow/broadhead combination for this bow. My draw length is approximately 27". If you need any more information please let me know. Thank you very much and Happy Holidays to all. I also have a Bear Montana Longbow @ 55 lbs and if possible would like to shoot the same arrow in both setups. I shot a recurve alot as a kid but my setup was poorly funded and anything I could get my hands on and shoot I did. So consistency was definitely a issue.

I have seen the best results with a GT 35/55 carbon @ 28" with a 100gr. head. Aluminums can be good but really have alot of room for error. I would suggest the Razorshark for a broadhead.

I would toss in the Goldtip Traditional shaft, 3555, 28" length. I doubt you could get by with the 5575 shaft - I think it would be way stiff at your length. What arrow mass are you wanting to shoot? We might need to consider a different combo shaft/tip to make weight if you are wanting a heavy arrow.
Start with a 125 grain tip and see how they fly. At 55 pounds you might be on the edge, arrow wise, but at 27 inches I am thinking a 3555 shaft should work out fine. If they seem a bit weak-spined, try the same arrow with a 100 grain tip - which should stiffen it up some.
Arrow selection is about a lot more than just picking a draw weight and length. Is your bow a center-shot, or does the arrow need to flex around the grip? Do you have a smooth release? Good form? Just starting? Two fingers or three? If three, one over or all three under? Do you draw with the very tips of your fingers, or firmly grasp the string between the last two joints of your draw hand digits? All this stuff can be a factor in getting the right arrow for any bow - and archer! Hence, I always suggest going to a local proshop and asking to try a couple arrows. They usually have a box of them around somewhere for range arrows. It is proper to go in with an idea of what you want, but if they have it and it don't fly right, you can move to something else that might work better - without a lot of cost... If is it a good shop anyway. This is how it works here in Longmont at Archery in the Wild, and at several other local shops as well. But you have to ask for the range arrows. Once they cut a new shaft for you, it belongs to you!
Broadhead wise - Razorsharks are great... My all time favorite traditional broadhead is the Sliver Flame. Hands down. But these are probably twice the cost of anything else out there!

BT/SMJ, Thanks. I hunted alot with arecurve when I was a kid and let me tell ya it was all luck and no skill. If I hit anything it was definitely by mistake. I got a long bow for Christmas last year and this year I got the recurve. I figured I will work on the recurve first and the slowly move into the longbow. I honestly do not know if the X200 is a center shot or not but I think it is.
I am just starting to get serious about traditional equipment. My thought is next year to hunt with traditional equipment during the archery season and compound during the muzzleloader and firearms seasons. Being an eastern bowhunter most of my shots are within 25 yards.
I do put the string in my first joints and shot with a glove. I now put all three fingers under the arrow. This method seems to be natural to me. I have not been able to find an archery shop that is very personable around here yet. There is one within an hours drive but they are more tuned toward the modern hunter it seems.
I want to get back to the basics and really cant explain the drive behind it but its there.
Thank you both again for your direction. I have a good place to start.
Respectfully, Craig

Thanks guys.. I order the GT traditional 3355 arrows Monday. I have some Magnus Stingers in 125 grain I will try first. If the spine seems weak I will certianly order the Razor Sharks as I read BTs review on them on the Keystone Country Store site. Hey BT how do I tell if you get credit for the stuff I get at Keystone. I usually link from your page now when ever I get anything from there.

You wouldn't be able to tell but once you link from here the memory of the IPO is recorded for every hit. So far I haven't even asked what the account looks like That account was turned over to the ATA Group anyhow. Thanks for your reminder though this is one of the loose ends I have to tie up this week.
