Question on beating or dealing with a swirling wind. West side of the lease is standard type wind ... rarely swirls. Where I'm hunting however, is another story entirely.
I'm wondering if I should try to hunt the lower ground ... or if I should try to hunt the higher ground?

Good luck ;D I hunt in places where we just live with it. At my Son's place the wind will change many times.Sometimes just a little and other times 180 deg.If on foot just change direction. If in a tree hope your high enough.I'm sure there are places the wind swirls less but I haven't found one.I always keep a bottle of powdered wind checker in my pocket and use it all the time.Just remember deer don't always go into the wind.

Of course, if we keep shooting all the stupid deer they don't get to pass on their genes and we are just making it harder on our selves. ;DLOL Bob

We have the same problems in a lot of the place we hunt too. It just makes it all the more critical to really, really buckle down on scent control. Even under the best conditions, we are no match for a deers nose, so anything you can do to tilt the odds a little means a lot.

Be super careful with scent control and get as high as you can in the tree

I'm pretty careful (as much as a Human can b e anyway) regarding scent. I'm at 15' on one stand, and 16' on the other. I had a Deer under me the other day, looked up at me a couple times, didn't ever get spooked, kept eating Carrots, that is until they were gone. LOL
