I thought the 3rd from last pic showed him the best - not well, but best. I'm gonna say 12-13" but a nice deer none the less.
I wouldn't be too concerned about what one guy did too the herd last year - I would be more concerned about what everyone does in the general area. During the rut the bigger bucks seem to move around more and so you may get some "neighbor" deer coming your direction.
Eg. Where I started working last week clearing trees for a road building project the landowner was adamant that he had 3 does and 1 fawn only. I told him don't worry, by tomorrow there will be 15 deer feeding on all these trees I am knocking down. The next day I saw 4 different bucks and 7 does. Just goes to show you that deer are willing to move around and go for the food sources. Interestingly, individual deer have staked out various portions of the 5000' of road clearing as "theirs".

Before the season, we had 2 Buck a litle 4 point, and a little 5/6 point. There was also a Doe with 2 Fawns - a button buck and a doe. Since the season has started the Doe that was there, isn't there anymore I seen her yesterday across the road. The 2 Fawns have gone elsewhere, and we have numerous bucks in the area. The bad thing is, the farmers around us have been shooting rifles since before Bow season, and they also shoot before legal shooting hours, and after shooting hours. The great thing is, we have the only area that's THICK, and not using rifles. I have to admit, if I see the 8 point or the Non Typical, I can't be certain I could pass them up.

I think the non-typical is a mature buck, which equals shooter. The 8pt is a young deer and I wouldnt shoot him. If you are managing your land for quality deer, then I would let him walk for another year at least, 2 preferrably. If you arent managing, shoot him. Just so you know, there is a difference in Quality Deer Management and Trophy Deer Management. IMO, QDM is better for the majority of the U.S.

Well, good news. The 8 pointer made it thru the Deer SEASON, but that's not to say he's far from safety. Farmers around here don't go by seasons. This was the last day of the regular season ... the extended season is over tomorrow night, doe and spike only ... I'll let them live another year I think.
