Any thoughts on how to get the metal insert out of Carbon Express arrows without damaging the arrow.
If I attach a field point and heat it will that loosen the cement that holds the insert. How much heat before I damage the arrow?
Thanks, Ghost

I heated mine with a relatively low flame until I see a bit of 'liquid' like substance oozing out past the insert. Then let it sit 10-15 seconds while the heat transfers to the rest of the metal, twist (to make inset is loose) and pull out the insert. Wait to long and it's glued in again. Don't heat enough and the inside wrapping of the arrow comes with the insert. It's a hit and miss kind of thiong learned through experience; even then it doesn't work perfectly every time. Noe thing I HAVE learned is to use hot glue to attach nocks and insert. (Heat the insert, rotate heated part in glue stick, insert into arrow while still melted, press against bench to make sure it's seated). Quick. Sure makes subsequent removal easier.

I use hot glue melt when I put my GT laser II arrows together since I might want to remove the insert and play with the weight. Thanks for the advice on Carbon Express insert removal. I guess the heating is a trial and error thing. It would be nice not to damage the arrows. ;D Ghost

With hot glue, use a candle for the flame. Use a field point as a heat sink. Heat the field point while holding the arrow at a 30 degree angle, and use a small channel lock wrench to twist it out. A tip is to heat the field point, then loosen it slightly, then heat again. You don't want to crank down on that field point to where it damages the face of the insert..

My problem now is how to get the existing metal inserts out with out damaging the carbon shafts. I have been told to heat a field points but how much heat before the shaft is damaged. I guess I will just have to try it on one of my arrows and see what happens. What I do not know is how much heat is too much. Ghost

hold the arrow between first finger and thumb half an inch from the insert while you heat the field pt over a small lighter size flame. Every 15 sec or so try to twist the field pt tighter - if the insert won't budge under moderate pressure loosen the field pt and continue heating. After about 3 try's your fingers will be getting hot and the glue on the insert will loosen.

If I can not get better flight from the GT arrows I will go back and hunt with the Carbon Express. Thanks for the info, Ghost

Just a use a field point as a heat sink.
