Fellas I just built myself a new bow, it's 100@28 and 111@30, and I have a 30" draw, I'm looking for arrows that are not wood and that I can get up to at least 800gr., I'm currently shooting full length axis 340's that are 540gr. with the 125 head, I can get them to about 780 by filling them with baking soda, but I need a little more, I don't want to load up the front too much so 200gr. target tips and broadheads are out, I want to stay with 125gr. for the heads........thought about going the full metal jacket dangerous game route and filling them, should get me to about 870 or so..........any suggestions?

Grizstick Safari I think you would have roughly a 750 grain arrow with the 75 grain insert @ 32" and 125 heads. Spined for 100+

Not really BT, 2 years ago I was shooting a 96# longbow, and I was feeling great, but everyone(that had not seen me shoot) said it's too much, way overkill... so I started dropping back a little to 65-75#'s , then I started to concentrate on my 65#er last summer and fall, well I found I started having some neck pains earlier this year and about a month ago I realized that my neck had lost a lot of strength it needed to keep me aligned when I attempted to change a tire on the wifes van with a short 4 way, it popped the plate loose again that's holding my neck together, it got stuck on what I believe was a bone spur( they told me I would get them from time to time).... so for the last month I pretty much lost the use of my left arm, I really thought I may be done shooting........until I went "swimming" last thursday with my brother in our pond, I shook my head and there was an extremely loud ...SNAP....my stepmother heard it from 60' away.......and immediatly I felt the pressure relieved from my neck and I could move my arm again......30 min later I put 3 dozen arrows through my 74# bow without a problem..........So now, I don't give a hoot what anyone says, I'm going back up in weight, and this bow which was really a build mistake, couldn't have come at a better time...... today I shot it, or short shot it I should say at 26", as I'm taking it a little easy.....I got my beman's up to 900gr, and it shoots 170-172 fps at 26" which at that draw weighs out to 89#'s.... but these arrows now seem to be a little stiff, hopefully in about a week when I plan to reach full draw, they will fly pretty good..............we will see!
Now BT, for something insane.... I made the best shot of my life today with my 74# longbow, in front of a witness too, my daughter Jessica, I shot an 8" yellowbelly catfish out of a herons mouth at 70 yds....dead centered it too, and yes I was aiming at the catfish!!... I have a pic of the catfish after with the hole and another pic taken from where I shot it from, but no pics or video of the shot itself..........seriously, it really did happen!.

Not insane too me just ballistic The funny thing is I never hear/see anyone who shoots longbow/recurve complain of shoulder problems: only compound shooters who generally are shooting less weight yet. That's an awesome shot!

voodoofire1 I can sort of relate to what you say about shooting keeping your muscles strong and feeling better. I couldn't shoot a bow at the wight you are but I have had two back surgeries and broke my back in three places once. Shooting a bow is good therapy for both the mind and body. It is good to hear you are back feeling fine and that is an awesome shot. Thanks for sharing

I musta shot 50 or 60 arrows from my heavy bow yesterday, admittely though only drawing to 26", and I feel great!! no pain what-so-ever!!..WOOOHOOO!!! and here's a couple pics, I would have posted them last night but I left my cell in the shop..... this first one was taken from exactly where I shot and the bird was across the pond between the three trees and our floaties/chairs.. this is the hole , and the same arrow I shot... Buckshot06, Your words are very true, this is the best therapy I have found, I would hate to think where I'd be without traditional archery, nothing the doctors tried worked so they just kept me "sedated", which is about the word for it as I was taking 10, lortab 10's a day and changing a 100mg morphine patch every 3 days.. all on doctors orders......I heard a statement by the comedian Chris Rock once regarding doctors, "the money is not in the cure.... the money is in the comeback".....to me most doctors nowadays amount to nothing more than legalized drug dealers.......Good luck with your recovery.
