It's not an archery kill but I called in my 14yr olds first turkey Saturday. Actually he was only 13 and turned 14 on Sunday. This weekend was Ohio's youth season. About 8:00 am we finally had a bird gobble on the propert next door to Grandpa's (we can't hunt there). I would call and he would gobble. When we finally saw him on the field edge, he was about 150 yards away and could see our hen decoy. I would call and he would gobble his butt off and come 10' closer then puff up and strut in figure 8's. I would call again and he would gobble and come 10' closer. This went on for about 1/2 an hour until he was finally in range and I was about in cardiac arrest from the stress of blowing it for him. Michael knocked him over with a single shot at around 20yds and he never moved till we picked him up. After some hig fives, hootin and hollerin and a little victory dance Michael carried him the 1/4 mile back to truck with a !@#$ eatin grin from ear to ear all the way. We got his Greta Grandpa (94yrs young) to come out for some pictures before heading to the check station. He weighed in at 24 pounds with a 9" beard and 3/4" spurs. Not bad for his first bird. He's one up on me now.

Kmp, Congrats to you and your son. Thanks very much for sharing the story with us. Its always good to hear about youngsters taking their first animal regardless of equipment used. And thats an awesome first bird to boot.
