I just bought a "new" bow from a friend. It is a "Buckmasters Pro" factory labeled at 70# 29" draw. It is currently dialed down to what my friend says is 45# and 27" draw. I really like the higher let off % and I feel sure this will speed up my arrows and tighten my groups. It will take a while to get used to the skinny grip from my palm filling Warthog Magnum.
I replaced the whisker biscuit and sight system with my own and got it shooting tight groups (for me at least) and it is "minute of woodchuck" at 10 and 17 yds. with all arrow types I have.
My problem is the draw length. The actual, at least as I measure it, draw was 26.5". I used the adjustment and upped it to 27" (max for the currently installed module). This feels too short for my comfort. I have always used 28" as my draw length.
My question is: Is there a natural physiological anchor position that is the optimum draw length?

There is a point at which all the bones align and the muscle strain is at the least. I find that as I shorten my draw length with a compound bow, my right elbow (my release is on my right hand, bow is in the left hand) starts to move forward. If you bring the elbow far enough forward, you will form a 90 degree angle to your bow arm, darn hard to hold a bow like that! When I shoot an inch to short, I tend to over-draw the bow, still trying to get my full draw length by pulling through the "wall" at the back of the draw. This messes up all kinds of things, but mostly it makes me miss my shot. I can get used to shooting short, but then if I don't shoot for a while, like sitting in a stand or stalking around, and then on top of it all I take a shot at an animal - yeah, the bow is getting an extra inch of draw! You can put an extra long loop on it, and let your release out a bit to help out.
Of course, all that said, if you've been trying to draw to the back side of your ear for years, this might be a really great change!
