Well as soon as I got home from the last shoot I got right to work on increasing the float and that got me having to resight. I normally draw a horizontal line through the backstop and concentrate on shooting that rather than a spot. I start @ 30 and walk backwards 1 stride at a time , shooting 1 arrow for each step back. When the last arrow drops 3" below the line I stop there and adjust the pin to strike the line. Now , with the drop set here , I can shoot that pin in the center ring of a large game target and not leave the 10 ring an additional 3 yrds. back from the point of pin drop without getting out of the 10 ring. I can also shoot center of the 10 ring all the way forward to 0 Yrds. without going out of the 10 ring. This means that one pin can go to 36yrds. on the average performance bow. Generally speaking you will add 6 yrds. to what could be termed flat trajectory in terms of target score impact area on any bow in this way. I decided that although I consider this to be as close to cheating as possible without the IBO police carting me off....I need the advantage with these young bucks ! ;D Now my pins are so packed together that 3 pins cover and area of 3/16" The 65 yrd. pin is only on there now to act as a range finder for those targets beyond 40 yrds.

I was trying to explain that concept to Elk4me the other day and failed miserably. Perhaps you could PM hinm or something and give it a shot. I use the same 6" pre pin as you and found I only need 3 pins to 50 yards with my Tech 29.

Well I started screwing around with my pins this afternoon. Unfortunatly I had to mount and balance and put tires on a friends car. I came home read this and went back out to tinker some more. It started to get dark and my arm was a little tired by now but I think I got my first pin where I want it. The big circle on the rinehart is 5.5" in diameter. I have my pin set so at 10yds it's centered, at 15 and 20yds it's just in the top of the circle, at 25 to a little over 30yds it's pretty much dead on and at 35yds it's at the bottom of the circle. So from 0-35 the arrow falls in a 5.5" circle. I'll have to re-check that tomorrow, in daylight and refreshed but it seems right on to me...as long as I can do my part.

Sounds like you got the concept down pat Skip!! I'm only good to about 29 yards with my first pin. You must be shooting over 290 with your setup.

I'm right at 288 fps. As I said I wanna re-check tomorrow with a fresh arm. Some of my shots at 35 yds were out of the circle by 3/4 -1" but most were just on the inside of the circles bottom. I know it's one or the other so we'll see with a fresh arm. Either way I may keep it there, if it's closer than say 25yds I'll aim at the bottom of where I want to hit, if it seems closer to 30+yds I'll aim closer to the top of where I want to hit. I think in all reality 30yds would be more spot on, but i can get 35 with very little compensation.

Ok, so I went to "on target" and punched in my set-up. It says that sighted in at 30yds should give me just less than 3" high at the highest point and just less than 3"low at 34yds. That is just about what my shooting tonight showed. It was when I got a little over 34 that I needed to compensate a bit. So, assuming this is all correct, does this sound like the best place to sight my 1st pin in for? Also, where do you guys think the optimal distance would be to sight in my next pin for? How should I go about figureing it out?
