Today was the Fairfield County Fish and game Clubs first 3D of the year. This club is 20 minutes from my house, but I have never shot it. Jen and I met up with Scotty, and Paul to give it a go this morning.
It was an absolutely beautiful day to shoot 3D. The club itself was absolutely gorgeous. Very Scenic. It is a 300 acre club, and I think we walked 299 of those acres to shoot 35 targets today.
It wasn't the hardest course I've ever shot. ( Not a Paul course ), but it was definitely not a gimme either. The Hoyt pro smoked us with a 326 ( 281 at the 30 target mark, for his second highest 30 target score). Scotty shot a 296 ( 250 at the 30 target mark. A little below his average) I ended up with a 295.( I was 257 at the 30 target mark, which is about 14 points above my norm. Jen shot a very respectable 257 (216 at the 30 target mark, which is well above her 30 target best) When I handed in everyones cards, Paul was in 2nd place, and Scotty and I were somewhere around 10th. They lumped the men and the one woman together at this club, and Jen was very happy to see a lot of guys with lower scores then her!! ;D
This need to be put on the must shoot list for the rest of you NY'ers, It took 4 1/2 hours to shoot. The targets are really spread out, but we had possibly the 2 slowest groups of shooter, in the history of 3D in front of us...lol. I don't even want to get into that!!!!
Here are some pics from today....
Can these 3 look any grouchier? The answer is yes....they all had their moments throughout the day!! ;D
Scotty about to take a shot at a pouncing Mountain Lion. What you can't see in the pic is the turkey that is about to be the cats lunch.
Paul about to take the same shot...
Jen getting ready to launch one at the mountain lion. Also the debut of the pretty riptide blue Hoyt Selena...
We did a whole lot of this today!!! It was one of the slowest courses I have shot.
Paul.... the walking Hoyt billboard....
Scotty, taking a poke at a ram....
Me shooting at the same ram..
Jen lining up on the ram...
Scotty about to take out a bobcat...notice the SWEET Vortex Optics shirt!!!
Me trying to figure out how the heck I'm gonna shoot over this boulder!!!!!
Me shooting over the boulder...of course I spined the deer!!
Scotty putting one over the boulder...
A front shot of the Hoyt billboard
Jen showing off the new Selena...
Jen, at full draw....
Scotty at full draw...thats a sweet Vortex shirt bro!!! If you notice...the Hoyt pro, is holding Scotty's Vortex, because he conveniently forgot his Nikon's in his truck!!!
Me at full draw....
Jen eyeballing a target...
Scotty shooting a buck between 2 fake Christmas trees...
Paul on the same buck...
Me shooting through the x-mas trees....
Jen shooting the buck....
Jen doing a little dental work on a standing bear ;D ;D ;D
Jen about to shoot over a turkey from the blind....
Scotty shooting from the blind...
Paul shooting from the blind. He could almost shoot over it sitting down!!! ;D
This was in my opinion the coolest set-up on the course. A mountain lion about to pounce on 2 Javelina.... Check out the cool rock formation behind them.
Scotty contemplating our group on a little tree stump bear. Guess who got the only 10? This was possibly the toughest target on the course. This target is meant to be shot quartering away, and they had it quartering to. To hit the X, you almost had to miss the target.
Fairfield County F&G definitely went the extra mile on setting up this course, lots of fun set=ups, that they didn't have to do. I can't wait to go back!!!!
