Jen and I took the drive up to West Hurley NY, to shoot Southside this morning. We met Paul there. As soon as we hit Danbury, it started raining, and it pretty much poured the whole ride to the club. When we got to the club, it was still raining lightly, but we headed out. After the first half dozen targets the rain stopped. I took my hunting set up today, and I have only 20 and 30 yard pins. I decided to just shoot the womens stake with Jen today, as it is in my hunting ranges. Paul also brought his hunting set-up, and shot the hunters stake. Southside isn't a long course, but there are a bunch of small targets.
It was a very relaxing and fun day, until target 5. Paul shot from his stake atthe leaning bear, and Jen and I shot from the woman/traditional stake. As we are walking up to pull arrows, I see Paul start doing the jig! I'm about 3 feet from him, and if something has him hopping around I'm out of there!!! Well, Paul ended up stepping on a bees nest, and just as i started to run I got nailed right behind the knee. He also got nailed in the leg. Jen thought we both looked pretty humerous. Thanks Paully!!!
It was a 28 target course. with 2 bonus targets. At the end of 28 Paul was around 263, I was at 258, and Jen was 244. Target 28 was a bogus target, as from the hunter stake the 10 ring was covered by brush. Paul got an 8. From the stake Jen and I shot, there was a tree blocking the complete 10 ring. Jen and I both put an arrow as close to the tree as we could, and we were both an inch back of the 10 ring.
On to the bonus targets. A deer and an elk. From Pauls stake thay had to be at least 75, and 85 yards respectively. Paul 10'd the deer, and just dropped into the leg of the elk, for an extra 15 points. I walk up to the blue stake, and the deer is at a little over 40, and the elk is at about 52 or 53. Here I am with only a 30 yard pin. I ended up shooting over the deer, and nickeling the elk. Jen 10'd the deer ,and got an 8 on the elk. Not sure I agree with those shots counting as 29, and 30, but what can you do?
Paul ended up in the high 270's, I ended up at 263, and Jen ended up at 262. It was a fun day!
