A couple of the shooters showed up this evening to have some fun and do some shooting. we shot enjoyed the cooling temperatures of the evening and even tried some shots that would be classed as semi elevated. Well from my deck. I then pulled the recurve out and just can not get consistant with this thing. I will keep practicing as I want to be able to shoot that thing. I am still working on finding the proper tuned arrows for my short draw length. the ones I am using are to stiff but you know what I was telling a friend that I find the recurve more fun to shoot and find the compound to be more work to shoot. But I love both and am addicted to either style of shooting bad.
I also have to admitt that I put one in the nose of the deer tonight and made a new nostril for it. LOL

I think the other shooters were mad at me for going on vacation as none of them showed up tonight.
Oh well I still had fun shooting by myself. I started out pulling out the compound and put the first shot in the 9 ring at 40 yards, bull at 30 and 8 or 9 ring (I can't remember) at 20. I then put and 8 ring at 40, 9 ring at 30 and a kill on Bambi. time to put it away and try some of the things Eastern suggested on the recurve. I need to start concentrating on Anchor point and form not were it hits. Eastern had also fletched some longer carbons for me with feathers and they fly quite nicely. I was shooting real well when I decided to shoot at Bambi. Dumb. I put the arrow in the dirt and when I checked it SNAP. Right in the middle it let go. At least it was not in my hand. I only missed the target one more time over the rest of the night and had 40 to 50 percent of my groups in a 6" group with 25 percent of those in a 3 inch group. I was very pleased for sure to see the improvement. More practice needed but it is coming.

Eastern is right on form being the most important issue at this time. Stick with it

We took the show on the road last night so technically there was no backyard ............... well not in my backyard anyway. I went out to a spot called Tay Valley Bible Camp and we got set up outside were we would normally shoot. As we started we noticed a few rain drops hitting us and when we turned around you could see this massive rain cloud coming our way. Luckily they have a barn that has a small gym like area and it is about 10 yards long. We made a quick decision to move inside and began to shoot. It started to look like the rain was actually going to miss us when all of a sudden the heavens opened up and you couldn't hear the voices from people around you very well for the all the noise the rain was making on the tin roof. We were glad we were inside at that point. The kids and adults alike had some fun and I noticed that most of the kids would come and say hey thanks for coming and doing this for us. I am telling you it makes you feel good. My friend from Pennsylvania was up and was unable to bring his bow this year so we invited him along and he seemed to enjoy himself. I took my recurve as we try to shoot with the other once in a while and I look at my friend and said "go ahead with the recurve". His eyes lit up and he had some fun as he got to shoot a bit before he has to go home. He even helped out with the shooting line and helped a couple of kids get going with there shooting. Another good night was had by all but I see my son loosing interest in shooting and I don't know how to get him back.

I was very pleased with my overall shooting last night. Hopesman was out and we put out way more targets than only two people needed. LOL We even got Hopesman's broadhead target out and shot a few at it. Which I did my regular of peaking to see where I was hitting and one I stopped that the shots were good. The real shocking thing for me was the 40 yard target.
I have worked on the 40 yard all summer and started last night on it. first two arrows were fired at it and we were not sure where they hit. When we got up to them I had a 9 ring at 6 o'clock on the bag and an 8 ring at 6 o'clock. Stunned I went back and repeated with 3 more (I think) in the 8 ring and a couple more in the 9 ring with one almost cutting the 10 ring. I began to tire and the shots were not that great but it was fun. We each put some nice shots on the repaired bambi target at 30 yards and I will be trying bambi at 40 eventually. We learned the Broadheads and the field points were hitting right on. No difference out to 25 yards at least but that was using the 85 gr boss bullets of which I only have two. I would like to get more of those and I have the 85 gr Magnus stingers waiting for me in Houlton. I still like those broadheads for some reason. I still have to see how they fly. Another good night of practice.
OH yea I actually had a couple of great groups at 15 yards with the recurve as well and that was after I was tiring.

The shooting tonight was OK but not great. Still we had some laughs and it was fun. I find anytime you get to shoot is fun. My 40 yard continued to be the amazing target for me with only a few fired up to that range and I think it was a couple of 8s, a few 9s and to my amazement a solid 10. The rest of the night my 40 yard went down hill but was still respectable. The funny thing is I hit the 10 ring at 40 and then turned and missed the deer at 20 yards. That brought out the laughter. I figure that I over relaxed at that point. I hit 40 now I can smoke 20 no problem...... OOPS Don't forget to concentrate when you shoot the short ranges. We had some fun, Fed some mosquitoes and what we call no see ems. Next week end will be our trip to Old Town Maine for our mini archery tournament. I can't wait.

Hopesman and I did some shooting last night and we finally put bambi out at 40 yards. I was struggling tonight for some reason but all in all it was a good night. I didn't let it get to me at all and shot away. I did manage to get good shoots on bambi every time but not in a good group. I just couldn't stay focused last night for some reason.
Hopesman has a couple of photos when he gets a chance I hope he posts them.
