I have been shooting the Easton Epic 500 carbon shafts now for a couple of years. Here are the specs of my bow again, 324 grains on a 26.5 inch arrow, 227.4 Ft. per second which gives me a 37.21 Kinetic energy number at approx. 58lbs pull. I have been noticing lately that I am finding some of the carbons have hidden fractures. I say that becuse of hearing snaps while flexing the arrows as well as when I pulled one on the weekend from a butt It had actualy sheared off right at the butt face. I was fortunate that it did not explode into my hand. After saying all that I am wondering if I should be looking at switching my arrows out to the epic 400 for my next set of arrows to avoid being right at the limit of 5 grains per pound pull? I am worried that I am over straining the epic 500. What are your thoughts? Eastern and I have talked it over and could not figure out for sure what the answer would be. so we are putting the question to you folks. Thanks in advance.

I've always felt that the Eastons are too brittle. Look at Carbon Force X-Weaves, Maximas, or Victory...JMHO....

I read the easton chart as you are borderline 400-500 ... archers advantage advises to use a 500 spine shaft. My gut feeling is to stick with a 500 spine arrow in about the same grn/inch but perhaps better quality. pse x-weave 100 or CX hunter 100 would be two that fit the bill.

I have been shooting Beman 500 hunters.7.3gpi at 47-48#.I shoot 26" and like the arrows they are .003+/-.Arrows are about 338-340 and 239fps. What GPI are you using?

More than once it's been reported as Eastons being brittle. Breakage has not happened to me yet, but my remaining Lightspeeds will remain paper punching equipment only. My nocks, however, are constantly falling out of the shafts I put in yet another order for new arrows with Keystone. This time for Carbon Express Maximas. I'm not screwing around with half-arse arrows that could potentially ruin a hunt. I agree with the rest of the guys here-there are better arrows out there.
