I prefer velcro over a buckle. When I first started shooting, my brother gave me a Scott buckle release to use and I had a terrible time getting it on and off. I finally went and bought a Tru-Ball Cyclone release and love it. The key to a velcro release IMO, is to put it on before you leave the vehicle to walk to your stand or make sure that you put it on right the first time once in the stand. I put mine on at the truck and tuck it into my sleeve. It stays put every time. It is pretty easy to remember how tight I have it by the bend in the strap.
