SMJ,Flyingcedar,Flatbow, someone!! My elbows are screaming from the last two days That 60# Browning Recurve is beating the bejesus out of my elbows to the point of where they burn and ache. Hurts lust to stretch them outward. You trad guys should know all about this The Mamba never beat me like this Anyone got a remedy that the wife might not have come up with yet? I know that the Korean Archers wear out in their mid to late 30's due to over shooting but I have never heard of aids that were used to treat. It's not the tendons but rather the joints (I believe) Any help here

BT, weren't you the one telling me not to overdo it?? Slow down, there's only a few more days until the hunt! I know that's not the proffessional opinion you had hoped for, but my god man, put it down for a day or two!!

BT - if it only hurts when you bend your elbow out - but not in - it's probably a tendon thing at the joint; if it hurts in and out its probably a joint thing. If that helps!
Running Excavator my elbows take a beating (have for 10 of the last 12 years). Constant side-to-side circular motion pushing 5-10 pounds of pressure at a controlled rate wears on my outside of the elbow tendons. kind of a burning sensation that makes it hard to really put pressure on something at certain angles. The best remedy I have found yet is arm exercises to strengthen all the muscles at the joint; and my arm position when I sleep. I have found that keeping my arms straight beside me and not bent at night really helps in a day or two.
I agree with everyone else take a couple days off and relax ... you of all people should be ready to hunt. Just relax and sharpen some broadheads.
Good luck to all at your various hunts (texas too!) rc

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of experience with this one. I know that over shooting can screw you up over time - but my life is to busy to allow for that so I've not suffered... yet... I can ask a couple sources and see what comes out of it, but some rest is probably the best thing. The other thing, just in general, would be to ice it up good. Do an ice rub until the area goes numb, then you are done. Typically, for me anyway, when something hurts it is from swelling some where. Ice helps to take the swelling down and the hurt goes away. You may find that you simply can't shoot this bow as much as you'd like, especially if the hand shock is great. Some bows just seem to throw a lot of energy forward when shooting and that energy transfers right back into the tendons and joint area. The sharper the impact, the worse it is. So take "5" and I'll see what I can dig up!

Do share what you find out... After all, I am just one wife, two kids, and a job away from that very same issue! (The dog don't care if I shoot a bow while we walk in the woods...)

smj - you mean you have to get rid of the wife, kids, and job to shoot as much as BT?
I like that medic link ... shows the pain spots and describes various ways it might hurt.
The exercises I believe are a big part of prevention. I try to do something with a couple of dumbells most mornings before work. Gonna have to try the wrist extension - 10 lbs sounds kinda too easy.
