I have a Stemmler Hawk recurve bow that someone gave me. Its 35# and the bow over all looks to be in good condition with the exception of the finish. The finish has bubbles in it and some has flaked off. The limbs looks to be solid with no twist or cracks. Can I refinish this bow? If so anyone have any suggestion on how I should do this.? I though I could lightly sand it until the old finish is removed. I just do not know what to replace it with once it is off. Thanks.

HArveycj, a few pics would help me out in guiding you, but off the top of my head, I'd say you could sand down the finish and fix 'er up. Are you sure that it's only the finish and not bubbles in the glass? if there in the glass, you won't get them out and they likely won't cause much trouble as is....As I said pics help. Several products will refinish that bow for you. Fullerplast, Smooth-on or even Polyurethane and I hear that even Tru-Oil will do it. Actually I'm gonna refinish a set of recurve limbs here soon, and I hope to use Tru-oil for those. I'll help if I can. PM me if you wish. Eastern'

Thanks very much BT.
Hey eastern, I'll try to get some pics tonight and post them. I just can bring myself to toss the bow as I really think it can be repaired. Thanks again.

Lets have a look before we get too hasty about chuckin' it. if the limbs and riser are sound, I'm sure we can give it a facelift.

Eastern, Thanks for reminding me. Had an iseu finding my camerea after the move and then the new Elite showed up. :-) But here are the pics. From what I can tell the bow looks structurally sound but I did not want to damage it any further either in trying to repair it. I was worreid about putting polyuthane on it as I was afraid it would crack but I would definitely like to attempt to fix it if possible.
