Jan. with 2-3 in of snow is the time to scout for next year late season deer. This has been a not typical year as I see more tracks in town than in the woods.I took a walk to check things out plus get some exercise.I checked my tree stands that I should have moved but got trapped with the snow. I started to see more than the normal amount of coyote tracks going into a thicket neer one of my stands.I went into it and saw a spot that looked like the deer were pawing up the leaves for acorns. The thicket is all pine and hemlock,no acorns.I walked over and was surprised to see a small buck. I figured he must have been shot and started taking pictures. After the first I noticed a Beman hunter 400 sticking out of his right rear ham.Now I am PISSED.There are two idiots that came to my mind but I thing it is one that is shooting deer after dark .I am turning this AH#le in. It was a 30 in. arrow with a I think 100 gr Slick trick.I know where his tree stand is and it is very high.I can not tell if the deer was hit from a high angle because of the condition and time passed. This AH probably never even tried to find it.It was on the farm I hunt not 200 yards from his stand.

Myself, I would call the fish and game and show them your pics you took and the arrow. Perhaps suggest they call the local shops to see who is shooting ICS hunter 400's @30". My gut feeling is it was mail order shafts cause green and white is common beman/easton factory fletch; also I suspect improper spine - to be "right" they would be shooting around 50#'s.
Then you could give them the address of some neighbor bowhunters you know of ... but I wouldn't point fingers per say.
The pics suggest to me it was shot from the ground with that shot, but I couldn't see/not see evidence of another shot. Only thing of intersest to me was there was snow under the carcass - either it was dragged around (probable) or shot after the snow stuck.
good luck OFB

Is there evidence that this deer was shot after the season ended? If, not, then there might not be anything anyone can do. But if there is...the jig is up...it's time to spank this guy..

I think this deer was shot in season! BUT this one pushed me over the edge.I'm going for the shots in the dark and shooting over bait.I will call Mon.but will not give out to much info till I know I'm not going to get caught up in this mess.I have hunters on all sides and in a small town word travels like wild fire.I called a warden 25 years ago and I could see he was more interested in me then the guy poaching With luck the gut pile might still be behind the house?? Or not the coyotes are all over but if they missed it the snow the next day might have covered it and if frozen they might have not eaten it all???

Gut pile or not you should have enough info with your pics and the arrow in hand.

Just to play devil's advocate here. The fact that the season is closed might make it harder to nail this guy...unless, he is still going, which will make it easier. I'm not sure that the pic, and arrow are enough, simply because enough hunters hit deer with arrows that get away, and get eaten by coyotes. The shots at night are just your statements, with no proof of who is actually doing it. The biggest chance of nailing him would be in his freezer. Venison not accompanied by tags would at least give him a fine, and have his meat confiscated, which in turn would lead the authorities to maybe keep an eye on him. But like you said..it's a small town, and everybody knows each other, so just keep that in mind, and weigh the consequences before you act. Maybe even suggest they set up one of those fake bucks that seem to "fake" out poachers every year. Whichever way you go, good luck, but don't let it eat away at you. You know you are doing the right thing, and you can't get all worked up at the idiots. Sometimes it's just not worth it..
