I'm reading Trailing Whitetails by John Trout and he talks about hitting the kidneys.Sounds like a luck shot and is better if broad side. They are small 3 1/2 x 21/2 inches. A Dr. Palutsis said"The organ of the body which receives the most amount of blood is the kidney. Therefore, all the bodys blood flows through it every minute. He compared it to removing the drain plug from a bathtub" It's funny I have never given them a second thought!

3 years ago I dropped a doe with a kidney shot...not my intention, but it did do the job...although she did make it a couple of hundred yards..

If they are already broadside the lung presents the best and largest target. If by chance you get a kidney on a quartering away shot ...bonus!

I don't think most hunters even know where the kidneys are located as I never even knew they could be a killing shot it hit.I just think they might help in recovering a bad shot and if hit could help to keep you from losing the deer.I know we don't always hit where we want to

I don't think most hunters even know where the kidneys are located I have dissected horses and deer and I know where the kidneys are located. My arrow cut both renal arteries, the posterior aorta, and the posterior vena cava. While the bleed out was really fast it not a good shot because the target spot is too small. A little too high and it is a spine hit and too low and you miss any major blood vessel but cut throught the small intestine. Ghost.

Your probably one of a hand full of folks that do know Honestly...I have butchered cattle, hogs, deer....hell, everything that walks or crawls and can be eaten.... damn near ;D That said, I don't think I would get any closer than lucky to hit 'em if I tried. I know where they are but not within 3"
