O.K....I give! I am actually ready to tie this year up and move on This isn't normal for me but this year has not been the norm either Why?....well, work isn't an issue anymore I guess it's got alot to do with the fact that the weather has been horrible and there is no snow on the ground I look forward to the snow and that (I think) is what gets me over the hump. Right now I don't think I would even get excited about an exotic hunt What the heck is my problem!?! Anyone else suffering this affliction besides me?

For two weeks now I have been suffering with a "flu-like" virus even though I got my flu shot 6 weeks ago......and this has dampened my spirits some on hunting. Most of my interest and excitement was the first 4-5 weeks of season but I too am just about ready to put "things" away for another year. I guess it is some form of "burn out". I spent quite a few days out with very early starts (3:30-4:00 AM) and many of them just turned out to be "fruitless" days and lots of fatigue. I did manage to get some meat in the freezer so I'm content with that. It has now gotten to the point that getting up a 4:00AM and going out in freezing temps to sit and wait has lost it's appeal to me for this year..so I'm just content to "take care of business" and stay warm. In about 5 months we will be heading out for Texas for two weeks vacation, with visits in Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas (with a stop in Topeka for a free cup of coffee, compliments snoodslapper ), Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio....with maybe some hog hunting in Texas for a day or two as a "bonus". But for now...yep....just "whitetail burn out" and even hunting shows on TV are boring reruns! Soooooo, into the new year and beyond and hopes of being here and being able for the archery opener in 2009.

I can feel your pain! ;D The early A.M. is just too much when factoring in the freezing temps and deer which have taken to the evening browsing I told Spiker that if he didn't come down for the final weekend, I wouldn't have the ambition to do those two A.M. starts

We will rock them this weekend..the weather will be perfect, and I have a good feeling about it...

I found this year to be one of the worst in years for me. I was pumped to get started and the first week was exciting. The the train came off the rails with problems with kids and the school system that continues to get me down and keep me from even getting excited about Christmas this year. I almost canceled the trip to New York (didn't know that did you BT) as I was not sure what to think about what was happening in the schools with my child. I did go and had a great time with BT and his family, lots of good talking on the 10 hr drives with hopesman and even got a shot at a deer which almost ended my bow hunting career. I was so down in the dumbs after loosing that deer that I wanted to quit. BT would not let me and that is what kept me going. I ended the year discouraged and our season ended. Then I got word and some evidence as to what may have happened with the deer I hit so I felt better when it looked like the deer would be there for me next year. Yup I have turned it around to the point that I can not wait until next year and my focus now is on practice at the church and teaching new shooters how to do it. I am OK now and one of the things with the school has been settled. I now see my kids smiling again and that means a lot to me. My family being happy makes life so much better for me. Not that any of it is my fault but I still feel bad when they feel bad. strange I know but that is how it is with me.

You know last year I believe I was more burned out than this year, even though I was seeing more deer last year. I think that the difference is that I am not hunting as many mornings as last year, and I am mixing up my stands more this year. That way I see different sights each time out, and don't get in a rut.
BT, I too like to hunt in the snow, so I am sorry to here that there has been a lack of it in NY this year. Ihope that there will be some when I come up for Christmas.

Cmon guys everyone has bad years or slumps I got up last sunday and hunted my property which is one hour from home it was eighteen degrees when I got out of the truck.Stayed on stand almost until noon and saw nothing. So I regrouped went to another property for the evening hunt and saw somewhere around twenty deer now I'm going tonight to move my stand and I cant wait for the weekend. This sport is bittersweet for those of who love it sometimes a break is in order if you take a breather you'll find yourself back in the woods sooner than you think. So get out there and hunt cause when season is over it's nothing but waiting for next season

I still have a little gas left in the tank but I think the light can come on any minuet.Like BT said the lack of snow is makeing it impossible to figure out what the deer are doing in a year that seems to have very little food.I went out yesterday and hunted to my tree stand and then took one home.I looked very hard and saw very little browse.I still say they are eating 60%+of grass.I picked up my granddaughter yesterday and saw a doe and skipper at 3:30 in a field between two houses. My son the BLUE JAY KILLER ;D.has almost three acres of lawn around his house. There are deer there every night eating it and a few ears of corn he throws out.We will feed corn all winter to keep them going and give his two kids somthing to look at in there yard. The funny thing is that in the old days our deer would eat hemlock as a last resort.I don't think they are hitting it yet.The farm I hunt is loaded with it but none at my sons.Years ago I can remember snow on the ground in Nov. and off and on till spring. We have had to many snow free hunting seasons.Good for the deer but a challenge for the hunter.

I'm only half way through the season . My luck has been HORRIBLE. But all that bad luck did is piss me off just enough to keep that fire lit underneath my fanny. I've met, made, and hunted with new friends in Ohio and New York. I've probably seen more deer this year than the past 7. Bunch of new places to hunt. Next week I'll have access to an Ohio nature preserve for two weeks. And to top it off, my friend Eric just informed that a large droptine buck has been spotted roaming the farm I've permission to hunt. Nope, I'm not done yet
