Thanks for the pic EH. That is some fine, fine work there. I've been getting the itch for a simple, recurve with all osage riser and limbs that was not a selfbow; maybe with just a strip of ebony down the riser and on the tips. I may have to see if JD would be willing to do it at some point. Snood, JD is the man! Check out his website(Whiperstik bows.com) He's in Michigan. He'll do you right I'm sure.

Thanks SMJ......I still plan on using one of my longbows this fall too! It'd be too cool to harvest a deer with something I built. This insurance!!!

I notice, too, that it looks like you have a tip protector on the lower limb, if you find that all the noise doesn't go away for the brace height adjustment, I'd remove that and see if that helps. Then I'd start playing with moving the string silencers closer to the nocking point some.

That is a nice looking bow! I have to tell you, yeah, taking an animal with your own bow is a good thing, but you don't buy bows to let them sit on the shelf! Good luck with it, post more pics when you get something!
String/limb noise is different from arrow slap on the grip. Limb slap, try the mole skin under the string at the nocks. I like yarn balls on the string, move them around on the string to get the best effect. Arrow slap, try a bit of talcum powder on the grip to see where things might be hitting. Make sure the bow is not rotating in your hand when you shoot. If it is, some slap can happen. Other than that, brace height can make some difference on noise. A pal of mine keeps around 8" of brace to keep his bow quiet. I don't like that much brace, on the bows I make it is way to much, but you might try setting the max brace recommended by the bowyer and see if there is a difference. When I try to get the bow out of the way to see where my shot is going, I can pick up some slap as well - and unusually bad flight!
Anyway, let us know what you find!

PS - Check the way you release the string, too. If you pluck the string, or pull your hand away from the anchor point before the arrow is gone, you will influence the way the arrow leaves the bow - this can make for some slap from the arrow as it passes the rest. Some bows will take more "pluck" than others. Has to do with materials, limb thickness, and width. If all else fails, check your release form.

SMJ, we had rain here most of the day so I'll have to tune the bow this week. I was being mndful of my release, but it may be part of the problem..Maybe not releasing clean. I figure a bit more brace too. I'm gonna call the bowyer tonite about it. Thanks....

I got a chance to see this bow first hand and I have to tell you all that there are no pictures that can do this thing justice. It is a piece of art and great shooter to boot. Way to go eastern on that new bow.
