Hey - if you are still wondering if you can make the shot or not with season just about here, go back to the age old standard - go stump shooting! You will probably want to go scouting a bit anyway - take the traditional bow and head through the area. Do some scouting, but also envision animals around you and pick some targets that you think are reasonable shots. Take the shot and see how you do. It will tell you right away if all is ready! All you need are a couple of blunts - I like the ones with wire whips on them (Judo Points), or large rubber blunts. The judo tips are nice as they don't bury themselves if you miss the stump and hit the weeds! www.fsdiscountarchery.com/browseproducts/Zwickey-Judo-Point.htmlwww.fsdiscountarchery.com/saundersbludgeonsmallgamepoints.aspxA pal of mine adds a little to this thought, and takes a tenis ball with him. He gives the ball a toss and then goes "hunting."

They have been hitting the apples really well, just wish I new at what time they are doing it. Don't matter I'll be there from dawn to dusk. Just can't wait. Good temptures today only 4 degrees C. almost frost!!!!!

I thought I had been doing pretty well up until a couple days ago when a 80+# recurve blew up on me at full draw.. (beautiful waterfall bubinga riser, busted at the throat with no warning) ...no I didn't build it...but I saw stars I tell ya!! hit me in the left ribs and chest also on the back of the head and sliced my finger open ( and no it didn't knock any sense into me,lol,lol).....but it did leave me a tad bit bow shy, which I noticed real bad yesterday.. so last evening I took out my hunting bucket for the first time this year, my Elk bow, and 6 arrows... took a seat at a spot I'd never shot from in front of my targets which ranged from around 15 to 50 yds, although I don't know exactly cause I never stepped them off... I cleared my head and put 5 arrows into the 12 rings of my 3 deer a turkey and a coyote, one shot at each, coyote being the furthest, then the last shot nailed my ping-pong ball on a string 20+ yds......so I guess I overcame the bow shyness, and dang glad I did, cause I'm ready to go hunting....just wish I could be in Colorado with ya smj!!!

Wow! That sounds like a wild time indeed!!! So far I've only had one bow blow up on me, but it was nothing like you describe... Way more mild - I heard a crack at full draw and the limb followed the arrow half way to the target after release. No thumps or bruising what so ever! Whew!
Your shooting sounds more than ready, I look forward to hearing about your kill this season.
I wish you were coming out this way this, too. However, next year is only a year away, and the year after that only two. One of them will probably work out, we just need to figure out which one.

smj... I will be coming out in the next couple years, but for now building these bows have really taken a mind of their own... I figured it would take awhile to get going.. but already I can sell them faster than I can build.. so..in doing this by myself, and wanting to keep it that way... I have some decisions to make, first I'm going to raise the prices and second I want to spend more time enjoying my family... life is short, and I don't want to spend the rest of it covered in dust while my family looks on from outside the door so hopefully in doing the first it will allow me the time to do the second...seems right now is a high pressure time, and everyone wants there bows in the next month, so off I go into the shop, and will return at dark when i get light headed from the blood loss from the nightly airborn invasion...

voodoo - that is great to hear about the business! I am happy for you as it sounds like your bows are taking off. As I have said all along, just let me know when you can make it.
Yeah, that dust is a killer, keep a good mask on! You will need those lungs when you come out!!!
