you are walking to your stand and as you make your way towards a clearing you hear 2 bucks fighting. you make it to the field edge which is 30yds away from them. They have obviosly been at it a while and are at a stand off. Looks like they are more like resting.............shot or no shot.

I really dont know what I would do! I hate to take advantage of them in this way, but the one on the right is offering a shot and has a nice rack. I would also be afraid that they were locked together causing a serious recovery problem. If I felt comfortable they were not locked and late in the season, with tag soup looming, Im slipping one in behind the left shoulder just above that light patch of fur of the brute on the right.

From my view the one on the right having his forelegs straight out has brought the scapula over the lung nearly complete On the other hand the buck on the left has a good pocket behind the scapula and is only at the slightest 1/4ing position assuming that the shot is tight foreword hmmmmm If the desire overwhelms me I am going to take the shot on the left for safety but if I am able to control myself a bit longer I am going to walk to the right until I can get a opening on the buck on the right where the arrow will 1/4 in behind that scapula. Besides....if they are that rutted up and into it , they are going to pay little attention to what I am doing at this distance.

I shot the one on the right and have it gutted and am draging it out while BT is still deciding what to do. LOL I am not fussy at all. Both good deer but BT makes a great point about where that shoulder blade is on the deer to the right.

This happened here a few years back but the deer were locked together. The guy that found them went back to camp and got his buddy and they both killed a deer. Last I heard they were having them lifesize mounted still locked together.
As for the shot/no-shot - the one on the right has the bigger body, I will manuver so I come out for a back to front qtring shot and let fly sliding my 100 gr Slick Trick behind the ribs and coming out by the off front shoulder.

I hunt westchester and have handfulls of tags. I would grab my silver flame arrow and shoot the right one. he probably won't even move. grab my next arrow and shoot the other one before the first even falls

I rarely take shots that low and forward so thats why I wouldn't attempt the deer on the right without moving. I like dead center of the lungs.....just in case I torque the bow or something else takes the arrow a few inches off course.

I'm with you on this one BT I am a lover of the organ meats (heart & liver), so I like to steer clear of them if possible. More importantly, when on a real live deer, I mostly likely will not hit the silver dollar, so middle of lungs would be a great choice all around
