After the turkey episode (in small game forum), we were walking back down the trail between the neighbors house and ours. I was looking through the woods and saw the doe bounding from the far edge of our yard (spooked by a car that slowed down) towards our apple tree. My daughter and I stalked to the end of the trail, and then scooted along the edge of the woods, only moving when the doe put her head down. We go to about 41 yrds (had rangefinder from going after the turkeys) when my daughter looked up at me and whispered in a semi-loud voice), "we're really close". The doe heard it and looked right at us. We froze solid. The doe stomped a few times and snorted at us once. Then she bounced back a bit without flagging, stopped to look at us again, stomped again. Then she decided it was too much excitement for her and she hustled into the woods where they come up. My daughter is so excited to be telling everyone she sneaked up on a deer!

Found out the neighbor down the rode I caught behind my house on Sheldons land (only I and his brother in-law have permission to hunt it) has noticed the deer coming out to our apple tree. He commented to my wife that, "wow, it seemed really regular. Someone could probably just drop the doe right there under the tree easy enough." I am not sure why, but I get a bad feeling every time I think about it.
I really hope he is not planning to do a "stop and stalk" right next to my house once gun season opens up. I never would have thought about it before, but this spring my bro and dad were bow hunting turkes in a blind 30 yards from their friends house and had toms coming in when some guy stopped and shot RIGHT NEXT TO THE HOUSE and tried to bag one of the toms.
