My Mathew Mustang is rated 40-50#.I started with it @ 42.Weeks later made 2 turns and was up to 45# few weeks later 1 crank and it went up to about 48#.I seem to have a fair amount of room left and was wondering how far it might go past 50#

1-2lbs max. After that get a set of 50-60lb limbs, if the Mustang's offered in 50-60lbs.

It varies from bow to bow with mathews. It also depends on the tuning of the bow. I have seem limbs that max out exactly at their max poundage, and I had a 70 pound Drenalin that maxed out at 75. 1 to 3 pounds over with a Mathews seems to be the norm for a well tuned bow.

Doegirl- 50 or 50+ is all I plan to shoot. At 50 I should have a KE about 40-44.At 10-25 yds thats all I need, and can handle.I will strive to be accurate and let the cards fall where they may :(Just hope to maybe get a few extra pounds.I realy believe a bow should be used at full draw and pull.Thats why I got the Mustang.26"draw 50# @280 fps that it will never see in the real world!

Don't sell yourself short. From what little I know of the Mustang, its a fast little bow. If the IBO is 280 @ 50lbs @ 26" draw, I don't see why you can't get within 10fps with relatively easy adjustments (lighter arrow, for example). My Equalizer "birth certificate" states 286fps w/ 250 grain arrow and brass knock/hush kit on the string. I chrono'd 272fps w/ d-loop, kisser and 265 grain arrow. That's 50lbs and 26" draw. You got a high performance bow, now tap into into it

The clearences are usually pretty tight on the mathews but I am sure you can get a little more than it says from the factory. I dont know why I max everything out but I do. I think its a complex. But like skip says, there isnt such thing as to dead. Never any overkill either. *LOL*

50# is plenty for hunting in terms of what you have said regarding limits My oldest boy took a goat at 40 yards with a 40# compound and let me tell that story since I love to re-live it .... (never would I condone this but it happened so thats the way it goes ) We were hunting a preserve and he was trying a stalk on a Texas dull. I was filming and couldn't see everything. Next thing I see (through the view finder) is the ram running about 1/2 way across the field. I look up from the view finder and David is at full draw. Before I can say anything he releases the arrow and I can only watch it streak out toward the ram. David was always good at leading a target but I couldn't believe it as I watched the arrow and ram collide at 40 yards out.! It was a perfect shot and the single blade sting nearly passed through behind the ribs. That was 40# at 40 yards! You'll be fine

Great Story BT I took my first deer with 45# at 35 yards Hoyt Sierratec (cam & 1/2), my Antelope 52# at 35 yards, Martin Bengal (cam and a wheel). The Sierratec packs more of a punch than the Bengal does, My Mule Deer last year was 52# at 45 yards. So 50# is plenty

I believe ever animal I have taken has been at 45-50#. You'll do great. You're practicing well and becoming very proficent. That's very important.
