Below are the averages for equipment additions as well as some specs so that you can get an average on what your bows performance is if you do not own a chrono. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- IBO standards are set a 30" and 70# @ 5gr. per.lb. on arrow weight For every 1# below 70# you lose 1fps For every 1" you lose 4fps ------------------ String Accessory's that add to speed loss brass nock: -4fps peep sight: -5fps string silencers: - 6fps Rubber peep tube: -8fps String loop without nocks: -2fps -------------------- For every 25fps you lose roughly 2yrds. on your arrow trajectory. -------------------- For every 5grns arrow weight you lose 1fps -------------------- **** These are very close approximates and can be counted on to be close enough to assure you that what is listed will apply to your set up. Hopefully this will help to assist in any modifications that you are planning on in the future.

That's some good info! Give me your thoughts on this BT. As you know, I just got a new (new to me) bow. It has an IBO speed of 315 fps., 30" @70#. I have been working with the guy at the shop where I bought it and have come up with some very interesting figures. First of all, on my old bow he told me I was out of my "comfort zone" with the way my old one was set up. It was set for 28" draw which he told me was too long for me. We set the new bow up presently at 57#, and 27" draw. I find it EXTREMELY comfortable at that and I'm shooting better than I ever did. Also, my anchor point on the old one was about 3/4 too high and he lowered that which also adds to the comfort and after it all, I find I am much more relaxed with the new set up. I am shooting 28" CX Maxima 250's, 7.3 gpi, 2"blazers and 85 gr. heads. My shafts could probably be cut down a little but after all the changes and with the new "set-up numbers" I have a final fps (chronoed) at about 240 fps. and am shooting flat up to about 18-19 yards. It all came out to about 5.4gr. per lb. draw weight with 100 gr. heads and about 5.2 with 85 gr. which IMO is great. Moral to this story is, there is a lot to be considered in setting up your bow with #1 priority being having your bow to fit you well. As has been my experience, once that is accomplished, then you can adjust your other setting to make it all come together in a "comfortable & relaxed" set-up!

Sounds like you found someone who knows what they are doing I had no idea that you were that far off on the fitting of your old bow but then again....how could I? I would have seen it when we met up a few weeks out from now but that would have really bothered me so I am glad you got it all fixed. I wouldn't bother with that 1" as you are already pushing to the heavy side of spine with the 250 shafts. I am not saying they are wrong...just a bit stiff. 5.4 is good enough for flight and I personally would leave it be. (LOL!!~ Cant believe I just said that! ) What is puzzling me is why you are at 240fps You should be closer to 285 and flat to 25yrds. I really hesitate to say something like that because you seem so happy with it . But I'm interested in how this could be

The old one I have been using for over 5 years and even I didn't realize the things that were wrong! I just know the new one really feels good and I feel a lot more relaxed when shooting!

I thought I should have more speed than that too. I thought maybe it could be that this is a 70# max bow cranked down to 57-60# We originally set it to about 56# and I turned it up a little which put it close to 60. I read the specs on the bow and by IBO standards it reads 315 fps.....as you say that is 30" arrow at 70#....and I'm just a tad over the 5 gpi per # draw weight. With speed loss by your above calcs., I really should be right at 280 if the specs on the bow are correct for the one I have. Maybe his chrono was off or he read it wrong!

NOTE: In GENERAL, the speed deductions listed are correct. But there are times when the dynamics of the bow are improoved by adding weight to the string (like speed balls etc). Recently, when setting up my newest bow, I was surprised to find a GAIN in speed by adding a peep (no nock was added before the string loop...I was chronoing EVER change in my bow as I set it up. 3 shots bare, 3 shots with loop, 3 shoots with loop/peep/ 3 shots loop/peep/silencer etc). NOT disputing that USUALLY , adding weight to the string slows it down...but there are times when weight on the strings HELPS speed as well (found that my cam & 1/2 Ultratec likes only 1 speed ball placed near the lower cam adding one near the top cam was no gain/slight loss depending on location)
In a nutshell...chrono EVERY change you make. There might be some more speed hiding in that bow!
