Weather man off again.I was told rain early morning.I got up
and checked and it was not!!Now I'm 1/2 hour behind all ready.
Rush to get things done and out the door I go!Lesson 1 bring
big flashlight that I used last year! The little ones with 2 AA batt.
are a little light with early season foliage. It was not easy going
to my tree.Carried my scentlok in a bag and put it on 300 yds
from my stand. Was sweating bad!!First time caring a cross bow
that will take a little getting used to.Climbed into my tree stand
and thought my harness tie down strap was twisted!Start to take
it off and( DUH) I still have my back pack on.Take off BP and hook
up to tree.I pull the Excaliber up and sit down. Not a great
morning with limited visibility.About 7:30 I catch movement
behind me and turn to see a coyote moving fast.I call as I get
ready for a shot and it stops behind some trees. It walks back
slowly and I shoot!!It blows out of there 100 miles an hour! This
is my first X-bow shot and my first Lumenok arrow. At the shot
all I see is my arrow sticking out of the ground.I figured I shot
low because it never entered my mind how far it was. When I
look through a scope it's a 7 mm mag.and always in rainge.I
said (you shot low) I climb down and pull my arrow out of the
dirt. And it is wet and has blood on it!Now back up the tree
and look for my plyiers to turn off the lumenok.Turn that off
and (O crap I have to cock this Xbow! Can't find my cocking
cord!!Figured I left it when I put on my scentlok but I finally
found it in another bag!!Ops now there go's my arrow down
to the ground!Well I'm not loading this thing up in a tree so
I lower it down because I need to get my arrow anyway.I
go down get arrow cock xbow and get back up into the tree.
Replace broad head and sit for another hour.Starts to rain
so time to go!Had enough for opening day! This time of year
morning hunts are not that great but it lets me get all the
kinks out by the time the trees start loosing more leaves.
But good lesson lurned.Think about range befor shot! And my
scent control was working with the coyote 26 yds down wind
from me!I shot for 20 and have one less coyote to deal with!
AND I LOVE LUMENOK!!!!!!!!
