This past September I really had an itch to chase some bushy tails with my old Winchester 12, 16ga. This was how I started hunting and I often think about doing it again. One morning this september I woke up early and couldn't fall back asleep. I walked outside and it just felt and sound like squirrel season. I ran back inside, grabbed my stuff, hopped in the truck and headed towards the woods. I arrived just as the sun was rising. It was amazing. I spend a lot of time in the woods chasing deer, but this felt somehow more pure. No fancy gear, no pressure or expectations. Just me and the trusty gun my grandfather had given me. I really felt like I was 12 again. i took my time absorbing everything around me. I ended up having more fun than I have had in a long time. I also managed to take my limit of 6 squirrels in just over an hour, my best day ever. I had never managed to take a limit before, no matter how bad I wanted to. That morning I didn't care and it happened so easily. I'm not sure when I'll go again, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it just as much the next time the urge hits me.

Sunday was opening day here. I managed to get out for a little while at first light before a thunder storm came through. I missed one on the ground with my pistol by less than an inch and then took him from the top of a hickory with the old 16 ga.

I have one in 12ga and two in 16ga. The 16's are my favorite shotgun by far. Light and quick, natural to point.
