So how I do post this without a serious TMI infraction? Oh well, suppose I can't.  ;D For years I've heard of guys using their female significant other's freshly used tampons for a deer lure during the rut. Well, the rut is kicking in in Ohio and guess who's menstrating So I've gotta try. Really, I want to see if it will spook does or not. Could very well attract them, as well. No, I know of no bear in the area I hunt in, so I'm OK in that regards. Will report back on my findings. |

I just think that I would rather shell out the 10 #ucks for a bottle of doe piss instead of lugging around a dirty tampon but hey....to each their own

For about the past 10 years or so, I have been using Tampax Tampons as "scent dispensers" after reading about it in an outdoor magazine. They hold a LOT of liquid! I usually take the urine from an early season doe...or later get some from a doe in heat...either one I got or from a friend....and late in the season I collect urine from any "rutting buck" from a friends harvest or my own!  They expand and fan out "kind of" after being saturated! I put the tampon in a thick (freezer type) zip lock bag and pour the liquid in. It really soaks it up! Then use the string to tie it on a branch or tie it on a "clip" to clip on a branch! Take it down when you leave your stand, and put it back up when you go back to your stand. A box of those little absorbent cotton things with the string will last a L o n g time. (about 20 to a box) You may use about 6 per season! This is my 3rd year on the supply I have!  This year, I even made a butternut "boost" drag with a couple of them. They make a GREAT heavy drag!!!  As for using "USED" tasmpons....I have never heard of THAT...and not sure I would want to do it...especially with all the "scents" available on the market!  |
