I really enjoyed the Videos from 20 years back (or more) The Barry Wensel and Bob Folkrod types that were hunting PA woods with a camcorder. That was fun and that was real. And they had real fun too....none of the later advertisement space for rent stuff that is the norm today. I don't like self promoters either.... People that talk about themselves in the third person or refer to themselves more than the game animal that they are hunting. I can't really explain what I am trying to say in that respect but I bet some of you know just what I am saying I hear ya AMEN brother.

Sounds like you guy's grew up the same way I did. No matter where your from, deer hunting is the same. The first year I got to go hunting with the men, I was 10 years old. I didn't get to Carry a gun, but I went and sat with my dad and waited, watched and listened in hopes we would see a deer. Now this was in the early 70's and there weren't many deer in our part of Missouri. In fact you couldn't shoot a doe at all, only bucks. Later when there were more deer you could put in a drawing for a doe tag. Long and short of it was I was 17 when I killed my first deer. I had carried a gun since I was 12 so it took me 5 years of hunting to get my first one. I looked forward to opening day every year. I would start packing stuff weeks ahead. We would always leave Friday evening after I got out of school and dad got home from work. Most of the time I had the truck packed with mine and his stuff before he got home. It was a 2 hour drive to get to the National Forrest we hunted. I knew every town along the way and how much longer it would take before we go to the camp. We didn't have motor homes or camping trailers, we slept in the back of the truck that had a camper shell on it and a bed made of ply wood. Those are things that they never show on TV because they don't hunt that way. They don't set around a camp fire and listen to stories the old men ( seemed like they were old, but now that I think about it they were about my age now) tell about the big deer that they got back in 62. Or the year they got snowed in and had to stay in camp 4 days before they could get out, ( a 4WD was a rare thing in those days). I'm rambling, but a TV show will never be able to covey to the new hunter these memories.

I like Waddell and his shows. they show just as much of hanging out in camp and having a good time as hunting. Reminds me of some of the campfires I have shared in the past.......plus that guy can flat out shoot. almost never makes a bad shot and smokes them out at some pretty good yardages. My friend at the bpw shop knows him pretty well through the business and said he really is just a good 'ol boy that loves to hunt and have agood time

There are good shows and there are Bad ones. In my opinion. I like the shows that are educational based then the ones that are just for entertainment. I like Shows like Deer and Deer hunting, North American Whitetail, QDMA TV These shows get into the Deer Biology and hunting tatics like when to use what calls and Scents or when to use a decoy. Occasionally I will watch one about hunting animals I will probably never be able to hunt like Caribou or Moose or even africa. I also don't like the shows where all they do is go from 1 outfitter to another. and do none of the work for themselves.

Here is my .02:
1: hunting shows with too much product placement. 2: does not promote kids or show enough youth hunts 3: shows do not have realistic views to hunting (ranches most Joe public can't afford, animals in the 170 class running all over the place, ever hunt comes to the last day hour minute daylight )4: Not enough show on after you shot IE : elk moose caribou bear the work it takes to get it out!! 5: too much staged shots and man i smoked him when clearly you can see you gut shot the animal
Shows i like Barta : just cause he shows you can hunt on a dime Roadtrips: shows family time in hunting camp and doesn't always come home with game and still have a good time bowhunting magazine :for informative tips Easton bowhunting, and American archer is also my favorite
I first remember these hunting and fishing shows are entertainment and then i don't get so angry
