I just realized that I have been a member for several months, reading reviews and posts, and started posting without a proper introduction. So now I will rectify that.
Howdy y'all. I'm Brian aka Madoktor1 from Manchester, TN. I'm 39 years old, married, and have four girls ranging in age from 2 years to 17 years old. I am a machinist by trade but work as a structural steel and custom steel fabricator/welder. I have worked in metal for about 22 years.
My wife enjoys shooting but I haven't got her into archery yet. She had a bad experience in the past from string slap so she is a little weary. My 10 year old loves to shoot anything from guns to archery. I just wish our local 4-H had an archery program because she is very good for her experience level.
I found this site through a friend of mine and fellow member Docholladay. I really like this site so far and there seems to be a lot of great people here. I really like the technical discussions that seem to go on here because, sometimes, I like to get technical. Technical discussions are a great tool for learning and sharing information and show a great love for and knowledge of the sport.
I started bowhunting in 1993 primarily to be able to hunt inside the city limits here. Manchester is a country town and farming community and, at one time, had a very large deer population inside the city. So the city allowed bowhunting in town. My first ever bowhunt, I took a doe at 35 yards with a complete pass through. The bow was a Bear Whitetail II that I picked up at the pawn shop for $50. I took it to a local archery shop we had at the time to get tuned, checked out and set up.
After this trip, I realized how expensive these shop trips could be and immediately started learning the ins and outs of tuning, set up and bow operations. The guy at the shop was really good about teaching me a lot about archery and got me off to a very good start. By the time I got through with the Bear, I had a very fast, very accurate piece of equipment that was tuned specifically for me and my shooting style. A friend of my who is about my size and build could not shoot it accurately. This is when I learned the importance and advantage to tuning my equipment myself.
I now shoot HCA equipment with a preference towards older bows. I have an HCA Safari 70#-85# DW and 30" DL at 240 fps.and an HCA Power Force 70# DW and 30" DL at 270 fps. I shoot Easton aluminum arrows in 2413 Lite (Power Force) and 2219 Stalker (Safari) cut to 29" and shoot a Tru-Ball cyclone release I recently purchased from Doc. I tip my arrows with Thunderhead 100's for the 2413's and Thunderhead 125's on the 2219's. I am part of a hunting club with a lease that has hogs so that's the reason for the heavy impact arrows. I have to get new limbs on my Safari and it will be set at either 75# or 80# with the 2219's and 125's just for the penetration needed for wild hogs.
I look forward to making many new friends here as I have on other forums and to the great discussions I hope to be a part of. May your aim be true, your arrows sharp and may everyone be truly blessed this coming new year
