Thanks guys. It was a great hunt even with the warm weather. The bulls started answering calls and coming to them mid week. My son was at full draw twice on a 5X5 at 10 yds but had no shot. He wouldn't take those last two steps where he could thread the needle. He found a spot near where I saw the bear that held elk. It was a cat and mouse game with the elk always winning. My son didn't fill his tag but he had a blast. I have to admit it's much more exciting than sitting over a pond. smj...no bear tag next year. I think it was a rare occurrence to see that sow but exciting none the less. BT...everyone in camp went back up to find that elk. We had the pack frames with us and it all came out that night. The tenderloins are as big as the back straps on the deer I shoot here in MI!!!. royden...sorry for your lack of luck. It still beats a good day at work. stilllearning...you are right. My Dad never spent much time planning where deer were going to show up or where the best spot was in relation to the rut etc. He always said " right place at the right time". bengal13....it's exactly like turkey hunting only the animal is larger. You need to do. You will be hooked. Just don't wait too long in life to experience it. I should have done it 20 years ago. We went 2 for 5 with another guy missing a 5X5 at 15 yds!!! Ken had a huge 6X6 at 35 yds but it was too long of a shot with his longbow. If he and I would have switched spots, we both would have filled our tags. We are making plans for a return trip in 2009. I would go back next year but I am taking the wife on a cruise/tour to Alaska. Still trying to figure out how I can ship my bow up there and have it stashed behind some brush.
