Things should be cranking up real soon! Antelope season starts mid-August with elk and deer season starting up the end of August, and for me two more new spots to go scout for elk and deer! Then its off to Canada for 10 days... Should be a few great tales to tell!

Well BT I guess it all depends on what your hunting. Feel free to move this if its in the wron place. I got back on Sunday from a hog hunt here in Texas. We went to 4D-Oufitters in Groesbeck, Tx. The place is a work in progress but if you are not to picky its a great place to go if you want hogs. We were covered in them the first night we were there and Nate is a great host. The accomodations are rough to say the least. The cabin has no electricity or running water, but then again he's not even really open until Oct. Supposed to have new sleeping quarters by then but we didnt care, just wanted to get out and hunt. And for 200 bucks it was well worth it for us for 3 meat hogs. 3 of us went and of course this crazy summer we are having it started raining just as we were headed out for the Friday evening hunt. Me and one of my friends setup my Double Bull by one of the feeders about 20 yds out. The rain let up just as we got settled, of course, and here they came. We werent there 10 min and had 1 come through, 15 min later, 3 more, 20 min later had a mid size boar and sow with 8 piglets come to the feeder. Hadnt been there an hour and had our first shot opportunity. I bet we seen 60 hogs that evening. I got first shot since it was my first hog hunt, even got it on video but hit it a little far back, but still a good hit. After that my friend took over the shooters seat. Not an hour later he stuck a pretty good size sow. Our other friend was sitting in a stand in another area and shot one as well, gut shot, but shot. The other bad part of hunting them out there, especially in the evening with the rain we have had this year is there is its really, really hard to track due to the overgrowth. And the rain and darkness didnt help. He is talking about getting a dog to help with tracking but it didnt help us this weekend. We tracked the 2 we shot for over 3.5 hours and just couldnt find the blood trail after that. It just dried up or washed away I guess would be a better way to put it. We were on it good for a bit, but they just ran out. And there were places we couldnt even get to on our hands and knees. All and all it was a great time and we are planning on going back in Dec. to give it another go. Only this time we are going to do the trophy hunt. 1 150lb+ hog and 2 meat hogs 100 lbs or under. He has some huge ones. We seen 1 Saturday morning that had to be 3-3.5 feet tall and at least 500-550 lbs. He knew the one we were talking about and said that was not the biggest he had out there. Our friend saw 2 he said would go at least 450. Hopefully we'll have better luck with recovery next time. If you want hogs give Nate a call. Since we/he couldnt find ours and we didnt have much luck Saturday due to the full moon, he took the weight restriction off for a sow on the Saturday evening hunt. He will put you on the pigs and do whatever he can to ensure you have a successful hunt. He even offered to put us up in a motel if we didnt want to stay at the cabin since it had not electric or running water. Great guy and a great place if your into hogs for a good price.

txc99- Could you clarify something? Was that $200 for 3 hogs for you alone? What did that include? Does he have a website? Sounds like you really had a good time and the owner seems more than willing to ensure you of that. Might be somethhing to look into for sure. Hey BT- Remember that charity thought I spoke to you about?

Sounds like the best of times and the worst of time to me. This guy sounds like the real deal though cant beat the price for what you were seeing. I figure that if I hunt Texas it will be with Black Betty and spitfires....due to that under brush

Yes the 200 was for 3 meat hogs for 1 person, its 300 if you want to do the trophy hunt, you'll see it on the website. It includes the lodging and meals. However we didnt get the meals which could have been our fault. We were to busy hunting. The website is www.4doutfitters.com/ . Like I said they werent going to start doing hunts until Oct. but they let us come out anyways. We were only the 3rd group out there. It was a great time and Nate is awesome. Will need a 4wd to get there at least with the rain we have had this summer. If you guys decide to come down, let me know and I'd love to go hunt with you all.
