Stump shooting! I probably beat it to death over other site and so I just figured it had been covered her I know that some here stump shoot but for those who don't ...why You gotta try it if you have not done it and if you have you should get back to it and sharpen that form I recommend Judo points for anyone wanting to do it because they are probably going to be the only head you well ever buy once I have used them for years and have never lost an arrow while shooting. I will give you , that a compound is gonna skip it out there some times but if you are not blind you'll find it For us Trad. guys , it is the best of the best But...I wont recommend it for small game I know some people will use them for such but I just don't use under gunned equipment for any animal. Zwickey does on the other Hand , make a great shaft slide which uses the same spring loaded hooks to stop pass through and stop arrows from getting buried under the grass. If you are thinking that the price is too steep ...no worries! You only need a few and you'll never need anymore , unless you want to do more arrows ;D

Fun Roving shoots are great practice and require no targets or a range. Having hundreds of targets which nature has put on the ground before you at hundreds of angles and distances , can only make you better able to achieve shooting perfection if done on a regular basis. Dirt roads can provide provide a course as you walk along and take your shots into ditches ahead where arrows are trapped from deflection and targets abound in the form of paper, cans and sticks. For the Traditional shooter there isn't a better way to hone that eye for instinctive shooting that I have seen. For the Compound guy on a budget it affords a plethora of opportunity's to get out in the fresh air, enjoy a nice walk and engage in some serious practice for the upcoming season.

The thing I have always liked the most about "stump shooting" is that while doing it, the practice is second to none. You shoot at different angles, up hill down hill, through obstructions and in every way is very similiar shooting under "real" conditions.

i know i may sounds like the b*@ch of the site, but what is stumb shooting. do you just walk through the woods and shoot trees with judo points, and does it mess up your arrows at all?

Actually, you can do it in your back yard or wherever. Not at trees but at single big leaves, clumps of grass, tin cans, (as was brought up before) tennis balls make good targets, pine cones on the ground...etc. It's best to use the zwikey judo points beacause they are great at preventing arrow loss by "catching" in the earth or grass and actually "flipping" your arrows. It's best not to use your better arrows but I have never damaged any arrows and have shot hundreds of times "stump shooting"l It helps you to judge distances as well as gives you practice shootig flat, up hill, down hill. A really good way to practice.

First of all hoyt...you are going to be the only one here to dump on yourself There are lots of people who know more and less than the next guy or gal so there are no stupid questions or statements. Just be prepared to stand corrected or do the correcting As lockmaster points out , there is any number of things to shoot at and at my house the favorite is the tennis ball. I get a tube of these when they are on sale and the two boys and I will just play chase the ball The way we do it is one will throw the ball out at a decent distance and then the shots will be fired at it. If the ball is hit it will shoot off ahead and we will go ,retrieve our arrows and then shoot from that spot and so on. On a good summers day we can shoot at a couple of tennis balls for hours and cover miles while walking through parks close by.

I'll tell you what!....it really is We never move the ball either If it get stuck in a spot we just keep at it until we pound it out of the spot it is stuck in. You can get a tennis ball to go a pretty good distance with a good connect and kids love to focus on that part of it.
