Spiker...I feel your pain brother. I lost a doe 2 years ago that still haunts me. I hit a bit forward and got scap. with enough penetration for at least one lung, if not 2. Very good blood for a few hundred yards, then nothing. My bro picked up blood about 1/4 mile away and we tracked for a few hundred more yards till losing it again. We searched until dark, and the next morning I was out there for 5 hours in a torrential downpour, with thunder and lightning grid searching. A good dog would have been a godsend on that deer.
Your efforts, and the obvious pain you feel over not recovering a deer, prove you are a true hunter more then anything else you could do. You care! There aren't a lot of "hunters" who would put in the effort you did searching for that deer, or be as torn up by it as you are. It is an unfortunate part of our sport, but deer do go unrecovered. Get back in the stand, and smoke the next one. Thats the best medicine!!!
Good luck the rest of the season.

That's really a shame, but you (and BT) went above and beyond to find that doe. The only consolation I have in my case is that I could find absolutely nothing for over 150yds. Had I found blood and/or hair and still couldn't find her I would be devastated, just like you are now. I'm so sorry.

I had the same thing happen last season!! Searched 3 plus hours Kris put me on to deer search and they were great!! I know you put in the tie to find that doe and that's all you can do, it's part of hunting!!! Suck it up cowboy!! get out there and hunt some more!! I know i would feel just as bad as you losing game, it's our resonibility once you let loose that arrow!!
better luck next time!!

NOTHING anyone says here will make you feel a whole lot better, but just know that EVERYONE here is your friend and would never judge because we know the efforts you go through to make every kill ethical. That, in my opinion, is the very epitome of what this particular board is all about. Also, don't forget, ethical hunters loose deer with fixed heads as well, and I believe the Spitfire can boast as close an average to a fixed blade kill ratio as any mechanical out there. This is purely the law of averages. It just happened that it is your turn my friend. You're a good man, and a good, ethical hunter; don't forget that because it means a lot to those of us here.

Spiker, all the things we might say won't totally erase the thoughts in your mind. Still, we all know how you feel, we have all had it happen or are about to have it happen at some future date. If you'd like to write back and forth about it, without having up on the board for all to pick at - drop me a PM and we'll talk it over.

Best therapy you can have is when you'll be doing the happy dance when you get your next deer down. The while cure everything. [glow=red,2,300]Get out there and good luck, my bud! [/glow]

Thanks Red! I've been out every day since, but I haven't seen another deer. I just ate 3 tags from last year. Oct.1 the new license kicks in. Oh well, I'll have to give that spot a rest for a few days, and hope nobody steals my stands...
