I just got word that the boys rolled into camp early this afternoon and the outfitter let them hunt this afternoon instead of waiting 'till the morning. Just before sunset, Ray layed into a big doe at 23yds with a spitfire. Right in the 10 ringer. She ran 10yds and fell, got to her hind feet and nose plowed another 20yds or so. He said he could see a spray of blood against the setting sun with each bound she took. The arrow passed through to the fletchings.

I just found out that his shot wasn't exactly where he thought. He centered the near scapula and clipped the front of the far shoulder on the exit. He will have pics for us when he gets back. it turns out that he never even hit the "vitals", no lungs or heart. The deer was still down in seconds from the large blades taking out the blood vessels and arteries. So much for a light arrow lacking penetration and Mechs eating up too much KE. 73# Trykon, 370 grain arrow at 285fps.

I hoot a 300 grn arrow @ 77#K.E. and generally end up 4-6" in the ground Pass throughs at 50yrds. are the norm and in fact I can only remember 1 none pass through.

I totaly get that, when your talking about hitting ribs, but I was a little suprised using that head and blowing through a scap, clipping the point of the other shoulder on the exit and leaving 8" of shaft out the exit.
