ok folks, this is my largest harvest to date as far as spread an weight.this is an 8pt,17.5" spread,an field dressed at 197 lbs.1st deer an 1st shot with my new mathews switchabck.71# draw,Beman Black Max HIT system arrows topped with Rocket mini blasters,Scott release, whisker biscuit,PSE F-18 sight, and a quikee 4 arrow quiver.
i started out heading to a small place behind a strip mall close to where i work.i was almost finished getting dressed when i was escorted off the property by a lady and an Ontario county sherrif!! turns out,the lady didnt know where her property line was and i was needlessy escorted off,but i went without a word ONLY because we as hunters have a bad enough rep as it is.i quickly rebagged my camo, called my best friend, who i loaned all 3 of my ladder stands to because i couldnt use them in such a populated area.i asked him if i could hunt the stand location i prompted him to put one of my ladders.he replied with..."absolutely" after i told him the short version of the story.now after driving 35 minutes to this location,i finally got in stand at about 4:25.i hurried my harness on,knocked an arrow,an plopped down for the wait.im sitting on an inside corner of a swamp where the trails come from a dry ridge that paralells the swamp an funnels them rite by the stand.at about 4:45 i heard a "squirrel" to my left, when i looked, the "squirrel" had long brown legs ! i slowly stood up,grabbed my switchabck, attached the Scott release an continued watching as this deer slowly made its way to me.at about 20 yards,it dropped it heads to grab a bite,an thats when i saw the mass of the right side antler.thats all i needed to see, didnt count points or look at the rack again, instead i shifted to the first shooting lane an got to full draw while he was still in the thick stuff. he came to the shooting lane, but instead of proceeding as the deer usually do,he stopped right there broadside.just as i touched the trigger off,he quartered to me !! the arrow went in bout 4" behind the right shoulder an clean out.he took 2-3 leaps an without realizing it,i gave a loud grunt to stop him...he did just that an collapsed a mere 12-15 yards from where i hit him and only about 20 yards from my stand.my arrow went thru the right lung and liver.total elapsed time in stand was approximately 25 minutes.4 days later,i was hunting at my spot where i was wrongly escorted out of when another 8pt that was 1.5-2" wider an atleast 4-6 inches taller tried to mount a doe 3 times in a 20-25 minute time frame, all within 25 yards or so at the farthest !!!these are the two largest deer i have personally seen on the hoof rack wise.
