I can only tell you what we do in Maine if we want to pull in some bears but bears are bears so it'll work A honey burn is probably the best I have seen. Get a good bundle of dried hardwood and a few hard wood logs that are also dried. Use the smaller stuff to get a good bed of coals going and then put the three logs on the coals , 2 on the bottom and one on the top in an H pattern. Lastly....pour 2 qts of honey over the top log after it gets good and warm and climb up in the tree. You should start your fire maybe 6 hours before dark so that the coals are burnt out and you have nothing more than a hot smoking pile of sweet honey. Generally a baited barrel with 5 or 6 dozen donuts in it is what is used for positioning. Locals get their donut stales from the bakery at closing for $1. on the pound.
