'05 was the first year that I have ever gone hunting in my life. I've always wanted to go, but my dad wasn't a hunter, so I never did. Finally, at 25, a buddy of mine helped me get into hunting. I had taken an archery class in college (how cool is that?) so I was somewhat familiar with a bow. My buddy let me use his spare bow (a browning timberwolf) and I actually harvested 2 deer. #1 Doe, spine shot. The picture was taken with a crappy camera phone, so it's not great. #2 Spike that I thought was a doe during the first week of rifle season.

You have to be one of the luckiest guys I know or you live in a deer dense area That really is cool ! Where are you located anyway?

congrats tshark- welcome to the sport. There is nothing like it. As BT said you must be one lucky guy...... I'd rather be lucky than good anyday of the week.

I'm in Forest City, NC. It's in the foothills, right on the SC line. I was definitely lucky, because I wouldn't call the area deer dense. But the area we were hunting in had never been hunted (that we know) before. It was some private land and we were the first to get to hunt on it, so there had never been a lot of pressure there. Plus I had a really good guide to help me with scouting and determining where to put the stand. He tells me now that he's "created a monster" because I'm practicing a lot more and always looking at gear reviews and stuff. My wife just loves him.

BT- If you read carefully I said that "I'd" rather be lucky than good. meaning that just once I'd like to have luck on my side, if I'm not good than i'm in trouble. I'm sure our new friend is more than just lucky. He seems quite modest too, I've put guys in great places and they just couldn't get it done. So no matter where tsharks "guide" put him, it was up to him to make it all happen at the moment of truth. Tshark, congrats again and believe me there are much worse things to be than a hunting "monster".
