Yeah, this is crazy this year! Talk about tight beaked! Went to roost Sunday night and heard a couple, monday morning heard 3 on the roost but by the time we moved in on them, gone or silent!
I didnt even have the desire to get up this morning.....
If it was 3 weeks ago, we'd all be in the birds!
I honestly think NY needs to seperate the Southern Tier and the Northern Tier like they do for deer season.
Have the SZ Youth Weekend the 3rd weekend in April, and the regular season open that Monday till say May 15 or so..... NZ can remain May 1- EOM.

I have birds all over me every time out and still can't get it done. I took my first ever (a jake) with the gun on monday (opening day) and since have been trying to get one withy my bow and call in one to my buddy for his first. Wendsday we went back to the same place,I had 2 mature Toms, one's beard almost on the ground, come running in and lock up behind a stone wall for an hour. we finall tried to move and got busted. We moved to a different property and made 2 yelps and got cyt off by a gobble. we backed out and trotted around to a stream to set up. we wanted to be set up at it so he wouldn't have to cross it for a shot. Well just as we got there he did too, and took off the other way. He must have heard us in the leaves after the call, thought we were hens and come running in, it was a different direction from the call and I never though he'd do that. Today we went back to the first property and got set up. We heard gobbles all around but in the distance. At 6:30 I heard one getting closer. We called him in from a long way off. He came out of the woods and strutted around the field (we were in the woods off the field) and came in the last 100 yards. I passed a shot at 20yds, hoping my buddy would get one. This bird probaly had a 7-8 in beard. After a while he ended up behind us and there was no way for my buddy to get a shot, I was in his way. the tom finally saw us or just figured something was up and gave a "put" and was off. I am having a blast, it's frustrating as all hell, but a blast for sure. I can't believe I never tried this before.
