I have been thinking. BT has convinced me that the recurve is the true way to hunt tree rats. I am up for the challenge this season. With a compound I have never lost one with rubber blunts and I've taken over 100. with the recurve I need something a tad sharper. There is no way I am going to be flinging razor sharks at these little limb rats. I figured I'd collect some of my old heads and see what I have. I found 6 125grain muzzys to start with. But all my other heads are expesive and big game approved. I was again at Wally-World tonight for more tree steps. I saw a 3 pack of 125grain Allen Grizzly fixed blades. They are kinda like the old cam loc wasps. I figured 3 for $6, great deal on cheap small game heads. I'm sure they will fly from a recurve. Well.............I think at $2 a piece I got ripped off. I bought 2 packs too! They tighten down with a collar that holds the blades in and no matter how tight you go, one blade is always loose. Tomorrow I will crazy glue the blades from wobbling and see if they fly true. They are fairly sharp but I believe squirrels are the largest thing these heads would be ethical for.........after modification. I think they will work quite well for what my intended purpose is as long as they fly true. The greys are in for a pounding here in a few weeks.
It scares the hell out of me that people out there are hunting deer with these heads, it's so sad it's not even funny.

You are exactly correct---but the Eastman Titanium2 heads are OK. You could just break off the blades/modify them so only a part of them remians---equally on all heads, then DULL the blades. File the tip flat again all heads equally. The mods should prevent permanent arrow mounts on tree limbs. At 6.77 per 3 it is a decent head for just basic tuning or squirrels(with mods), but with the blades at only .0017 inches thick, NO WAY for anything larger than a farting squirrel.

Friday is opening day! I'm gonna drop a few tree rats this weekend! I just hope my new video camera gets here by then. I want to get some recurve kills on film. I can't wait.

NY licenses are good from last year until the end of Sept. I still haven't gotten mine yet either. You still have until Oct.

;D I too, have trouble wrapping my head around the concept of licences and seasons for squirrels - don't see any danger of them being hunted into oblivion - not around here at least. Tautdog, would you be able to post some pictures of your head set up? Bigbore is correct that the squirrels (at least in Western Canada) warrant a cutting edge. In fact, I believe that all God's furry creatures are deserving of a sharp blade. So I modify old/ junky heads that I come across for dirt cheap or free so that they wont stick in trees. Here are a couple of examples; I know that some traditionalists would consider it a sacrilege if they saw what I've done to one Mr Bear's razorheads

I don't have capability of computer camera stuff, but your heads look really good. I just use pencil erasers glued to the old aluminum broadhead adaptors, or even right to the bullet style field points. Another great head is this: find a pistol caliber that matches the diameter of a field point 25 grains less than you are currently shooting. Epoxy the casing onto the point nice and evenly. NOW the good stuff....somebody I saw recently sells a judo style arm set up you just stick onto the threaded portion of your field point...an instant judo head. NO WAY it'll stick into a tree, and the arms will act like blades. Tremendous shock also. PS: one of these days I'm gonna learn how to do the computer camera thingie.
