I would think that a decoy which moves is the only good decoy. JMO but since a turkey is so skittish and has such great eye's....it just seems that if you stick a non-moving decoy out there....your just alerting that bird to the fact that something is wrong.

BT that hasn't been our experience at all. I don't think the turkeys are smart enough to worry about lack of movement in a decoy.
Placement of the decoy is critical. You need to have scouted the area well enough to know approx. where the Tom will be coming from. They travel similar routes on a regular basis. Place the hen decoy on the far side of your set-up with the hen decoy facing away from where the Tom will be coming from. This will pull the Tom thru your set-up and keep him from hanging up. The Tom stops advancing when he thinks the hen is seeing him, waiting for her to come to him. If the decoy is facing away from him he will continue forward to get in front of her and get her attention.

I heard that you should have the tom or jake decoy faceing you. The tom will always confront the jake or tom decoy first head on. I will use a decoy in some sets and sometimes I will not. Most of my birds were taken without the use of a decoy.

I've had mixed reactions with decoys. It seems like most of the time, they don't really work, but it's something to try every now and then.
I take a good slate, box call and a couple of diaphragm calls. I usually have a quick little stake-up blind, but don't use it most of the time.

I personally hardly ever use the Jake decoy any more I just go with 2 hens have them facing away from where the Tom is coming from and you are all set.

We use this method also, but we do have a tom decoy, we have a secret weapon with him and I will let you all know if it works
