The Wilderness Spa hunting Preserve is a real nice operation for the Yankee who has always wanted to hunt a hog (or other exotic) but just has not been able to make it happen.
Upon arrival you will find a wonderful lodge that is spacious and welcoming with clean comfortable beds and a plush lounge area along with a pool table.
There is also a full kitchen and two baths so there is no need for crowding or waiting.
A full size walk in cooler is available for any game as well as a full butchering area complete with stainless everything.
Outside you will find a good archery back stop where you can warm up three or four at a time at a range of 35-40yrds.
The Breeding pens are to the west side of the lodge itself and it's kind of neat to be able to see the boar breeds that are there although these guys are not for you
The hunt area itself is full of hills (and therefore valleys) and is a fair chase hunt when archery tackle is employed and rules of the hunt are set in a sportsman like sense.
In fact...this is one of the harder hunts I have been on in the Northeast.
This is mainly due to the fact that there is very little underbrush left for cover which allows the animals a good view of your approach.
Pigs Russian strain and ran anywhere from 50 to 350#
It was as close to the real deal as it gets without the travel
The last time I went ('07) things were very different with mostly feral hogs inhabiting the property.
Feral hogs are great eating but do not have the Russian attitude that causes you to hunt hard
There were many smaller Russians but we just happened to miss out on what remained of the larger stock that year.
I would suggest winter or late summer for this preserve
I do alot of preserves and not many stack up against this one in the northeast.
