Question: If we hunt in Texas or somewhere far out west and we fly out, how does the meat come back home Do arrangements need to made to have it shipped back home? How much would that cost?

Good question Generally speaking, ranches have a freezer and you get an x-tra carry on for some airlines. What I am going to do (if I am in this situation) is ship my equipment down and back and use coolers for my baggage...so that I can bring two coolers back. Weight for luggage allowance used to be 75#....which equals about 2 average sized hogs after they are boned out.

Weight for luggage allowance used to be 75#....which equals about 2 average sized hogs after they are boned out. first i buy coolers out there or put my clothes and duffel in cooler and bring on plane .. you don't need much in clothes for a 2 day hunt i pack clothes in with bow.. weight restrictions is 50 lbs. this is why i fly southwest they would allow 3 bags underneath with out extra charge... when i flew to AK to hunt last i went with 2 bags underneath and brought back 5 cost me $150 extra for head and meat.. Texas Hunt t will depend on how much meat you want to bring back.. there are processors that will ship you meat back overnight or 2 day but i have never used them cause I'd just pay 50 bucks for extra bag... you can ship gear to any ranch in advance and ship back that runs 40-60 dollars i believe depending on weight but when i fly i check to see how many bags are allowed underneath with out cost I know most of the major carriers are ripping off customer and charging for everything again I hate flying southwest but it let me get extra baggage with no extra fees i wondered how much it cost for the TV shows to fly cause they have a ton of stuff to take on hunts!!! I've flown a bunch so what i find is to have good cases (double bow cases) like tuffpak,skb,vanguard,etc... no Plano plastic the airlines tear them up!! this way you can pack clothes in with your bow. take range finder, bino's in knapsack as carry ons flying to Texas from NY is 6 hours so if meat isn't frozen 3-5 lbs. of dry ice will keep meat cold till you get home if frozen 3 lbs or less will keep meat frozen for most trips.. if anyone has questions about flying or getting meat home you can call me @ 845-417-6068 and I'll try to alleviate you concerns if i can get caribou from AK to NY you can get your neat home just find the right airline as i said for hunters Alaskan air and southwest have been top notch for me!!!

They cut the weight huh?....guess that shouldn't be any surprise. I wouldn't take my bow or anything I wanted to hunt with on a plane. The few times I have flown, I have had damages and losses....imagin that happening!. Nope, DHL all the way. What size coolers are you getting under the seats Jamal?

Here's another ranch I found, this one in Oklahoma: www.huntrockytop.com/Home_Page.htmlIt's just hogs, but if the accomodations are big enough, it might be worthwhile. Note they specifically allow stalking So far, the ranches/preserves in Southeast I've found are PRICEY. I don't know why that is?

I just stole this review off today's post on bowsite:
Here is my trip report from a recent adventure with Fair Chase, Ltd. for javelina and hogs. This is a modified North American Hunting Club format.
1) Outfitter: Fair Chase, Ltd
2) Owner: Rob Kiebler
3) Address: P.O. Box 1679, Azle, TX 76098
4) Phone: (972)-523-5621 (cell) 5) E-mail: fairchaseltd@aol.com
6) When: January 22-25, 2009
7) Where: El Indio, TX
8) Guided: Fully
9) Drop: No
10) Transportation to hunting area: By truck driven by guide and/or outfitter.
11) Accommodations: Sleeping trailers with individual rooms; two rooms per bathroom. Separate game/lounge trailer. Separate kitchen and dining building.
12) Trophy hunt only: No
13) Species hunted / harvested: Javelina and feral hog hunted. Two javelinas and one feral hog harvested.
14) Tools used: Compound bow.
15) Land hunted: Private
16) Cost: Booked at 2008 rate of $250 per person per day for three day hunt including food, lodging, guiding, and meat and trophy care. Check with outfitter for current rates. Additional costs: Air fare $276.50, shipment of bow and arrows $80.00, prior night's stay in hotel $116.00, license $45, tip.
17) Challenging terrain adversely affect hunt: No
18) Did weather adversely affect hunt: No
19) Quantity of game: Excellent
20) Quality of game: Excellent
21) Guide's Competence: Guide and outfitters' skills exceeded my own hunting skills.
22) Guide's Hunting Ethics: Excellent
23) Condition of Equipment: Good
24) Food: Outstanding!
25) Trophy care: Good
26) Meat care: Good
27) Number of outfitted / guided hunts for myself: 7
28) Recommended: Yes!
29) General comments: I could write positive volumes about Rob and cite numerous examples of the outstanding service he provides and the outstanding time I had. In short it was great Outfitter, great Game, great Food, great Time!
I packed leaning towards heavier weight clothing, but didn't pack enough light weight clothing. Temperatures swung from high 70's down to below freezing with wind chill. I shipped my bow down and back via FEDEX which saved me $120.00 from taking it on the plane (Continental Airlines would have charged $100 each way). I should have taken one of the bow "holsters" that allows you to rest your bow on your thigh while spotting and stalking.
30) Contact me on Bowsite, user name dustyvarmint if you have questions.
this gives you ideas on cost of shipping, flying, plus his cost @ fair chase ltd. which always gets great reviews!!
