That you have ever taken?. Mine was three yards , maybe 7yrs. ago when a buck walked under my stand. Kind of a dumb shot in hindsite but those always look like a cant miss deal. A couple of days ago I had the draw on a doe that was quartering at five yards, I even had the broadhead on (because I thought the noise might be coming from a turkey looking for food.)but I was a good boy Those are the shots that stick in the mind the most and I know some people dont consider it a good hunt if they cant get 10yrds or less away before letting go.

I took a 3pt at 1yd. My 7pt at 5yds. An old sigle spike buck at 4yds(I too stay away from the straight down shots theses days). Ive taken a bunch under 10yds. I once in the rain stalked a 6pt to within a legit 9yds. I followed him until he beded in a blow down. After about 30min of being within spitting distance, he stood and walked straight away without presenting a shot. I still remember him very well though.

4 yards and my first deer taken on the ground. I left a stand I had been in since daybreak because of a change in wind direction. On the way back to camp I remembered a 4pt I had seen a few days earlier while hunting the edge of a cedar swamp that was rimmed with tag alders. I walked off the trail and stood between two blown down trees. Less than 30 minutes later a doe came by followed by the same buck. I drew when he walked behind a tree near my setup and double lunged him. He ran about 50 yards and piled up. One of the most satisfying deer I have shot because I had tried for 10 years hunting on the ground with no luck.

I was white tail hunting in Nebraska, and set a ground blind where the deer came into the field to eat. There were several large round bales, so I pulled a bunch of green plants and stuck them in to the bales, where two bales were rolled close together, to have a place to hide out. As it was getting to the end of the day, some does came out. It was also my last day to hunt... I watched them come past, and one of the doe stopped and looked right at me through the green plants. She snorted and stomped her feet. All but two of the deer walked quickly past. The two that didn't, came over to my blind and started eating the green plants I'd stuck up to hide behind! I drew, and one of them left, so I shot the last one. Probably at about 6 feet or less. It was shoot, or be eaten!!!
